Would you buy clothes from primark from a charity shop?

Silly question I know. I sometimes see clothes I like in charity shops and when I look at the label, I see they are from Primark. I am conflicted about whether I should buy them or buy something from a more expensive brand like monsoon that will probably last longer (but I don't like it as much).

Would you buy clothes from Primark in a charity shop?

No, because they are often priced up at more than they would cost new!

FionnulaTheCooler · 06/06/2023 18:13

Depends on the condition and how much they're charging. I've seen Primark stuff in my local charity shop and it's the same price as it would be brand new.

HyggeTygge · 06/06/2023 18:14

Unlikely because it's usually shit quality and never fits me, and unlikely to be any cheaper in a charity shop than new. However there's no "principle" stopping me - in fact it's probably better if it gets used for longer rather than going into landfill.

i volunteer in a charity shop and today saw we had a brand with tags Primark dress (£10 on label) priced at £4.50 which I think would sell.
If the price is fair, then no reason why Primark would not sell.

Lockheart · 06/06/2023 18:20

This is a bit of a weird question. If I liked it / it was what I needed and it was in good condition and it was fairly priced for a second hand item of Primark clothing then why wouldn't I buy it?

unfor · 06/06/2023 18:21

Yes of course. I have clothes from Primark that are excellent quality, it's a myth that all their stuff falls apart immediately.

Frogmila · 06/06/2023 18:22

If it was a fair price and I really liked it, yes. They have some good cuts and decent fabrics.

RandomMess · 06/06/2023 18:23

If it has been worn and washes a few times and still looked good then yes I would. I have some Primark stuff that has stayed in much better condition than much more expensive stuff.

Needmorelego · 06/06/2023 18:27

The reasons I would choose an item of clothing from a charity shop is -
It's my size
I like it
It's a price I can afford and am happy to pay.
I don't care what shop it came from originally.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/06/2023 18:31

Yes if I liked it and the price was ok. Some Primark stuff lasts for years, I have stuff that I have passed down though all 3dc from there.

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/06/2023 18:31

If I liked it and it was in good condition and priced fairly - I can't see a reason not to, same with anything else.

I don't shop much in primark but do have some items that are years old and in great condition that I still really enjoy wearing. The brand isn't as important as the fabric composition or quality IMO.

Dacadactyl · 06/06/2023 18:34

Depends what the items are tbh and i usually wouldnt buy 2nd hand primark stuff because it is worn out or ill fitting. However, I bought 2 reasonable looking shirts the other day from a charity shop for £3.99 a piece. They were both primark originally and I tried them on in the shop and they both fit fine.

I buy most of my stuff in charity shops, but usually it'd be more branded stuff.

WorstBJever · 06/06/2023 18:41

I tend to buy the brands that I can't afford new in charity shops. I got into a rut when I was on maternity leave and could only afford Primark and ended up with a wardrobe full of shit clothes. Now I only mostly buy 2nd hand and have better clothes than I've ever had. Also, I buy better brands and if I don't like them or they don't fit, I sell them on Vinted.
I don't buy Primark because I find they are not much (if at all) cheaper in the charity shops than new. Having said that, if I saw somehting I really liked, I might buy it if the price was ok.

mondaytosunday · 06/06/2023 18:45

Sure. My daughter bought some F&F things not so long ago. I managed to snag a Liberty print shirt (with tags) for my son, but he's label conscious, she's not.

Thepleasureofyourcompany · 06/06/2023 18:46

I have some stripy t shirts from Primark that are 5 years old and fine. Not everything is awful

passiveaggressivenonsense · 06/06/2023 18:47

Yes because the clothing industry is shite for the planet and there's enough clothes already in existence to clothe us all for a hundred years !
