People who moan about places being busy…

When they’re at the place…. Helping to make it busy!
Moaning about busy roads, parks, shops etc when you’re one of the ones adding to the numbers. Why are you different?
I vaguely follow a Facebook group about Disneyland Paris. OMG the whining about how crowded it is - you’re there! Why shouldn’t all the other people be there too!!
I find myself having to restrain my snarky comments.

I agree re traffic, but with something expensive like Disney it is disheartening to get there only to have to battle through crowds and wait ages to go on rides.

PassTheBabyPlease · 05/06/2023 16:56

We had this constantly during the pandemic. People going to beaches and restaurants and being outraged that others wanted to go there too.

ValBiro · 05/06/2023 16:56

Yeah I hear your logic but for something that is ticketed I think the venue holds some responsibility about the numbers they let through, rather than the punters. For traffic yeah, for sure, you are the traffic if you're in it! Shops, well yeah... If you go at peak time, same thing to be expected.

This is fair comment but then you get the moaning about how it costs more….
the less people visiting the more money they need to charge per person.

Ah god yes, you're right - I am the poster girl for this! 😄

Yep this - if you don’t like Disney Paris being busy as it’s expensive, would it be achievable for your budget if they halved the ticket numbers but doubled the price? If they halved the tickets available, would you even be able to get a ticket?

I do think there was an element we got spoilt when things reopened after covid, with less people being allowed in to theme parks etc they were nice and quiet.

LimeCheesecake · 05/06/2023 17:02

But yes- you are the traffic. You are the crowds. You are the people making this place busy.

This did my head in! "I went for a walk in the park & it was packed, don't people realise it's lock down" 😆

DamnAndDashIt · 05/06/2023 17:15

Like the folks who go the supermarket on Xmas Eve, then complain about the supermarkets being rammed on Xmas Eve, don't they know they only close for one day etc etc

Tarantella6 · 05/06/2023 17:17

I am the first to complain about people being where I want to be. It's the one thing I think would be good about being a Royal, I could demand places be emptied as a security measure before I went!

Bluevelvetsofa · 05/06/2023 17:21

Somehow, there just seems to be more traffic, especially locally. I’m not adding to it, because I refuse to use some of the roads, especially since they changed road layouts to impact the traffic flow negatively.

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 05/06/2023 17:38

It's the same every Christmas in the supermarkets...."It's chaos in here", "I've been in this queue for ages", and my all time favourite.." Anybody would think the place was going to be shut for a week...it's only 2 days".

My thought is always "yet here you are".

Climbles · 05/06/2023 17:48

I hate it when people mean about how ‘touristy’ somewhere has become, when they are the tourists.

Climbles · 05/06/2023 17:49
  • moan
InSpainTheRain · 05/06/2023 17:52

I see your point OP although I live in a hugely popular town and we gets millions of tourists annually and I don't mind. But sometimes, if you go somewhere and you wanted it to be reasonable (at least) but it's packed and you cannot move at all then it's awful. And you've paid for the privilege! I remember going to Eden once - never again! It would pointless as you couldn't move.

Ylvamoon · 05/06/2023 17:58

Anything that sells tickets/ makes money directly by letting you "in" I think it's reasonable to moan. As said up-thred it's up to the greedy venue how many tickets they have available at any given day.
Beaches, beauty spots or towns, just stay away if you don't like it!

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2023 18:01

I'd be really happy if they tripled/quadrupled the price of Disney/other places

I know loads of people who go every year and I just think it's a terrible toll on the environment

If it was 4 times the price and only a quarter of the people they'd still sell out but people would only go once every 4 years or summat

WhatADrabCarpet · 05/06/2023 18:04

I find it odd that post-pandemic, so many National Trust places are rammed.

Never before the pandemic.

Eg a Tuesday morning at a local NT place is now incredibly busy. Why? Are they all 'WFH?'

BodegaSushi · 05/06/2023 18:04

I also think that the moaners are contributing but I also feel that way sometimes too 🙈

I'm a nanny and am often in places during the day with the children that I expect to be calmer than the afternoons/weekends.

I genuinely am confused as to the other types of jobs people have when I walk into a park cafe to find it packed (not even lunch time necessarily) and it just seems to be people who don't seem to fit into retired/providing childcare etc. like, please where can I find these amazing jobs that allow you such leisure? Because they aren't working on a laptop either (that's a whole other annoyance), just starting gleefully into the distance and they casually sip on a drink.

Ditto all the people I see having PT sessions in the park all hours of the day.

Are people just wealthy and not working? Ever? 😂

Omg snap! It's my same query 😂

But only the really rich people?? Can’t say I really agree! A compromise somewhere surely!

No compromise Grin

If you can only afford to go every 4 years rather than every year, tough

Or every 20 like I could - went once in 2008 and took children - that was it 🤷‍♀️

LimeCheesecake · 05/06/2023 19:13

@WhatADrabCarpet - lots of people joined the National Trust when in covid it was one of the few days out available. Now they are getting their money’s worth.

I’ve noticed lots of people who’d be the multiple holidays a year type are this year taking odd days leave here and there because they can’t afford to go away as much this year, so are using up holiday leave on random days /weeks.

People who have full time jobs that include working weekends will have their days off in the week. They aren't 'amazing jobs that allow such leisure ', they're things like retail, tourist attractions, catering etc.

VenusClapTrap · 31/07/2023 22:49

I live in a small village with a very narrow high street, on which two cars can’t pass by side by side in places. At rush hour and on sunny summer weekends when the world and his dog decide to drive through the village en route to the seaside (they could go a slightly longer way round on bigger roads, but of course they don’t) it gets pretty snarled up. There can be shouting and tooting.

Often when I’m walking along the pavement, people wind down their windows and ask me what the problem is. I just shrug and say too many cars coming through a narrow village High Street. SO many times I’ve had to then listen to them complain about how they hate the village because it’s so busy, and always jammed with traffic. I suggest they go the long way round next time if they hate it so much… Honestly, people, you ARE the traffic!
