Would you hang washing in your front garden?

Would it be weird to put a clothes maiden out in the front garden to dry washing (no underwear!!)?

Context:
Fairly quiet road.
Neighbours tend to sit out in their front gardens when the weather is nice but they're all v v respectful and do not play loud music etc.
I don't have a back garden, just front.
My flat is prone to damp so I am wary of drying indoors.

In my situation, would you do it?

Yes, but I would probably dry undies indoors.

RailwayCutting · 05/06/2023 16:20

I would if didn't have a back yard. I hang my massive bras indoors and also my washable pant liners. Pants I hang behind a towel etc. I'd do that

SparkyBlue · 05/06/2023 16:25

I hope they smell lovely when you take them in OP. Absolutely nothing nicer. We are getting over a vomiting bug in the house and I've line dried all the bed linen etc and everything seems so fresh now

Thank you @SparkyBlue I do too! Grin

I've lived in flats with no outdoor space all of my adult life so this is very exciting! I think I'll wash all cushion covers nextSmile

I do this!

Back to back terrace so no back garden. Don't care if anyone sees my pants either Grin

Someone needs to challenge this 'not allowed' to hang washing outside flats instead of meekly complying.

It affects absolutely no-one and is the most appropriate way of drying clothes as it's environmentally friendly and doesn't risk causing damp. What does MN always say about people wearing revealing clothes - if you're offended by it, you shouldn't be looking. So apply the same logic here.

Oh I've challenged it and challenged it
The issue with mine is the lease rules covers my block and the bigger block. I'm the only one with a garden. So they say they can't put an exemption in and "it's in the lease, you agreed to it"
There's also other ridiculous rules like I can't bang a rug outside or do anything immoral
They also didn't build them with room for a tumble dryer Hmm
But I can lift my washing over next door and dry it 6 inches away and that's fine, as it's a house Hmm
So if you look at the gardens you see everyone each side drying washing (because they're houses and not covered by the lease) and then mine, empty

My upstairs neighbour will and has reported me and I can't risk losing my flat (I own) so I'm waiting. He's 91....

The deeds of my house state I'm not allowed to hang washing in the front garden - along with a shit tonne of other rules!!

Curlyshabtree · 05/06/2023 19:28

We have no back garden so we hang ours out front, as does everyone else in the area of back to back terraces. For us it is the norm.

Update: it blew over Grin

I went out and picked it up when I noticed about 2 hours after I put it out and it was all bone dry though!
