Bariatric Surgery - How much in the UK

I am thinking of having bariatric surgery. I just feel so low as another six months seem to have passed and here I am again at least 5 stone probably more likely 6 stone overweight. Losing it just seems such a huge task and whilst I know surgery is not a golden ticket, I think it surely would make the losing weight easier. I am 58 now and feel that as I am so far along in life already, it won't be such a huge hardship eating small portions for the rest of my life.

I just can't seem to get my head in the zone, into gear and get losing the weight. Has anyone else felt like this and resorted to doing it? Was it successful, did it work and where did you get it done in the UK please.

I paid £11,300 at the Spire, Gatwick. If you can wait a year, you can take out Vitality health insurance and then pay only 25% of the cost. I'd got to the point of virtual immobility though, so I wanted to proceed quickly once I'd taken the decision.

I paid 8000 with The Hospital Group in 2017 . I lost 8 stone the first year and and another 3 gradually over the next 3 years . Best money I ever spent!!

I got a quote from Spire in Edinburgh this year and it would be £13000 to £14000. I can see why people go to Turkey now!

I am hopefully going to Egypt to have it next year, will never be able to afford it in the U.K.

The dr was trained in the U.K. and the US which is good.

I had a sleeve done in 2022 at BUPA Cromwell in London. I paid a total of around £15K, about half of which was for the surgeon and half for the hospital. It went off without a hitch and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Worth every cent.

Just worth saying again to anyone who can wait a year that if you take out health insurance with Vitality, then they will cover 75% of the costs of bariatric surgery in the UK 12 months later. That's a huge saving and I wish I'd known about it before I got to the point I did.

Blimey I wish I had known this, or would I have wanted to wait?

Mine was about 11k recently with Healthier Weight in Tunbridge Wells, had to take a loan out

I'm the same Bellac11. I had no clue such a scheme existed. I see what you mean though, when you get to the point of deciding to have it done then you're fairly desperate.
