Anyone know the financials approx for house sitters? As in, who pays whom?

Im exploring a long trip away and wondered about getting a house sitter but have no idea if I pay them ? Tia

people on these websites don’t usually charge!

Thanks @Oceangirl82 - so no one pays anything?!

I used to house sit through an agency. The sitter is paid reasonably well and there are strict rules.

The advantage of using an agency is you have insurance cover and the sitters are vetted. If something goes wrong on a contract, they send a replacement sitter.

So many things can go wrong. I only did it for a few gigs but could tell you stories that are mind blowing.

I have done seven sits, I have insurance, provide DBS checks, references and photo id. No problems yet 😊

Sorry missed your question, no money changes hands. Sitters pay a registration fee to some sites and insurance etc.
At the moment I am doing a lovely house sit on the south coast with a small doggy companion. Lovely weather and free accommodation!

@anythinginapinch whereabouts are you because I might know a (trustworthy) person 😊

We use a local farmer's daughter to look after our smallholding when we go away. We pay £50/day.
