Massive comfy pants. I've never gone back (eldest DC is 11) Grin

Be prepared you will be discharged quickly so may not need a lot! If no complications after they usually want to discharge you 24hrs afterwards.

Also you'll spend first couple of hours in the recovery ward where you can't always have all your bags, we were only allowed essentials then DH could get my overnight bag from the car once i was on the main ward.

I dont like peppermint tea (for the trapped air that can hurt your shoulder bizarrely) so I took colparmin capsules and didn’t get any, will be taking it again this time. Slide on shoes, something easy to put on in the morning. I thought I’d want to wear a loose dress home to save pulling on joggers but felt so conscious of the bleeding situation that I actually wanted the loose high waisted joggers on. I had one pathetic moment during the night where I bled through my pad and nightie and the nurse had left my bag on the floor and no help was coming so I was really struggling to get clean pyjamas and underwear out. Someone on here had suggested either adult nappies or sticking pads on your big pants and putting them at the top of your bag and I so wished I had in that moment. I will be doing that this time and being very conscious of what’s going at the top of my bag or having a little bag of emergency pyjamas etc sitting by the bed so I don’t need to hunt for them. Good luck!

As a treat for the way home leave a pillow in the car to put over your belly and put the seatbelt over you just to stop any pressure on the wound. I might leave a little packet of my favourite sweets with it to eat on the way home too 😂

strawthatbrokethecamelsback · 04/06/2023 20:52

Your own comfortable pillow! The hospital ones are rank and just make you sweat. Definitely snacks, drinks, hair bobbles. Good shout on the dressing gown cord to help you get up 😂

Supertayto · 04/06/2023 20:53

All the snacks and drinks. Hand sanitiser for overnight nappy changes. Facial mist and handheld fan. Antibacterial wipes. Slippers or flip flops to avoid bare feet on hospital floor. Lip balm and hand cream. Enormous, and I mean enormous, pants. Mints. Good luck and congratulations!

Little make up bag and mirror. If like me your in for a couple of days and having visitors you may feel like applying a little bit of make up to feel more 'you'

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 04/06/2023 21:10

A hydrating facial sheet mask. I was so glad I had packed one

Good lip balm (I like rev de Miel)

Cosy socks

Flip flops for shower

Snacks!

Lots of books / kindle

Bobbles to keep hair up

As a pp suggested, dressing gown belt or a scarf to tie to the end of the bed and pul yourself up - did this for my second c sec and it made getting up SO much easier. Also deflatine tablets for any trapped wind pain. And ask for lactulose to be prescribed and start taking beforehand which will make that first poo a lot easier!

AngelicaM · 04/06/2023 21:27

I cannot recommend c section pants enough, I don't know how anyone manages without them, I used Mothercare but John Lewis stock them and lactulose or prune juice but something to avoid constipation after the anaesthetic!

Lindy2 · 04/06/2023 21:32

Some small cartons of juice with straws. You can drink those practically lying down if you position the straw right. Sitting up is hard work to begin with so anything you can do while still lying flat is a bonus

AlienSupaStar · 04/06/2023 21:52

Fybogel

lip balm

big pants

flops for shower

hairbrush

dark coloured dressing gown

leave valuable jewellery at home

I brought my phone and headphones into theatre with me and listened to music during the section. It helped calm me and take my mind off what was happening - I was an emo wreck..

That is an amazing idea I might nick that idea myself
