What age will you be when your mortgage is repaid?

Basically just this.

Mine is due to be finished when I am. 61 currently 49 so 12 years to go.

I read a lot on here that people have theirs done and dusted by the time they see 50 and makes me feel slightly depressed.

I wish I could make overpayments but sadly am not in a financial position to do so. So out of interest how old will you be?

I was 48.

In the era of reducing interest rates, in the noughties, before prices went stratospheric. Overpaid by keeping payments the same as they were with higher rates... a lot easier that way round.

AHelpfulHand · 04/06/2023 15:53

I was 32 when mine was paid.

barely told a soul

Jmaho · 04/06/2023 15:55

If we don't overpay we'll be 63. I work in mortgages and have to say most mortgages I approve on a daily basis currently are to age 75 so as long as ours is done before we retire I'm happy with that
Liklihood is we will start overpaying it seriously in next five or so years and knock a few years off it

I will be 40, seven years to go, have been extremely lucky buying and selling houses. However OP don’t play down how well you have done to firstly, own your home, and your mortgage won’t take you into pension state age of retirement x

honeyandfizz · 04/06/2023 15:57

Same as you OP 61 but that is with me overpaying, I am 46 though and this will be with overpayments and solo. I had to take out a large mortgage and spread it over more years when I got divorced 7 years ago. I am just about to move and am hiking the mortgage up for the final time, I earn pretty well and have the opportunity for endless over time (NHS) so try not to stress too much.

Coffeaddict · 04/06/2023 16:01

If we don't overpay 70. At the moment we have 2 kids in nursery so have zero spare cash to overpay but once there at school will aim to overpay

mrsbyers · 04/06/2023 16:03

55 , 37 payments to go and counting - hopefully will then drop to part time as starting to struggle with two chronic conditions and impact of a small stroke

Iwouldlikesomecake · 04/06/2023 16:04

If I don’t overpay, early 50s. But I’m hoping I can do it by the time I’m 48.

daffodilandtulip · 04/06/2023 16:05

I think in the current state of play, you're doing well to be a homeowner and have a mortgage that finishes a good few years before pension age.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 04/06/2023 16:05

Currently 53. Single so all on me. Reckon I get it done by 50. Tied into a great rate for another 4 years so will be trying to over pay after next year.
I reduce the term each time I remortgage. Went from 20 years to 14 years last year. This should take me down to 9, but will push for the 6 if I can afford it.

JulieHoney · 04/06/2023 16:07

57, barring any major upsets.

ScoobyBooby · 04/06/2023 16:07

I will be 52 if I don’t make over payments . Children in nursery now so those payments will switch to the mortgage once they start school.

rainydaysandtuesday · 04/06/2023 16:07

Ill be 60 but hope to upsize so may have to increase the length

Oliotya · 04/06/2023 16:09

DH will be 70, I'm a bit younger. Hopefully once kids are all at school we will have the cash to overpay and bring it down a bit.

HeidiUpTheMountain · 04/06/2023 16:10

Nominally 67 (my state pension age) and DH 64, but we overpay enough to bring that down by at least a couple of years, and I will get my first pension lump sum at 60 which should see off most of what will be left by then. It’s not a race - we are able to live comfortably, enjoy our lives AND enjoy a fairly large comfortable home by doing it this way. We are lucky we both have good public service pensions to look forward to, so as long as it’s gone by the time we both retire we will be satisfied.

Snozzlemaid · 04/06/2023 16:10

I was 49

2chocolateoranges · 04/06/2023 16:11

49 we haven’t over paid however have saving and could pay it off now. Debating whether to pay off or just keep going. Our mortgage payments are very low compared to some friends.

RandomUsernameHere · 04/06/2023 16:11

I was 36, but might take out another one if we upsize in the next few years.

Spendonsend · 04/06/2023 16:11

61 also.

I was set to pay off a mortgage by 45 but we decided to move to a better house. I am undecided if it was worth it.

RollinRollinRollinRawhide · 04/06/2023 16:12

I’m 50.

angelicaelizapeggy · 04/06/2023 16:13

65

Auntieobem · 04/06/2023 16:13

In theory 61, but due to move off fixed rate early next year so will probably pay a lump sum off it then and reduce the time.

VintageThoughts · 04/06/2023 16:14

I was 32. 49 now.

HAF1119 · 04/06/2023 16:15

50 if not overpaying
