Apps for transferring money to dc

LemonLimeWater · 04/06/2023 10:48

We live overseas and my dcs do not have British bank accounts. Last time we tried (in the middle of covid), it was a paperwork nightmare, so we gave up.
We are heading back to England this summer and I want to be able to transfer money from my Barclays account so they can buy and do stuff without me around. Is there a way to do this without going through the hassle of opening bank accounts? There must be apps, can anyone recommend any good ones?
Thanks

ETA
They have British passports and bank accounts in another country, so there is no desperate need for them right now. We will sort them our before they get to university age!

I often use PayPal when sending money to friends or family. Have you tried that?

Second using PayPal!

Write2023 · 04/06/2023 10:53

Can’t you just link your bank card to their phones and they can pay using their phones?

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 04/06/2023 10:53

PayPal. It's instant and free.

LemonLimeWater · 04/06/2023 10:55

I hadn't thought of PayPal, thanks I will check it out.
Their bank accounts are from an overseas bank and I don't want to pay charges every time they use them. @Write2023

Is your Barclays account not in the UK?

LemonLimeWater · 04/06/2023 10:59

My Barclay's account is, but the dcs don't have a British bank account. I assumed they need one for me to transfer money to them. Happy to be wrong, please let me know if there is a way. Thanks

My inlaws feom USA use paypal for birthdays for my dd. You do lose a bit in fees.

They have also used western money transfer. But we had to pick up the cash.

Just looked up hyperjar, looks good. I can't download it here, but it could be an option once we get there

We use Revolut. I have a Revolut account that I use for day to day stuff and online shopping (where I might need to use another currency). The children have accounts and their own cards, linked to my account. Think it was about 15 quid to set up, but no charges for transferring money to them. Xx

Anne8850 · 04/06/2023 11:04

I use Revolut for the same purpose. Been using it about 3 years with no issues. Very little fees either

Do you have a card linked to your Barclays account? They can link this and use this on their phones.

KnickerlessParsons · 04/06/2023 11:12

How old are they? What about a Go Henry card?

I didnt know this was possible. This would work. Can I give them a preset amount, or do they have access to my full account?

Second hyperjar - it's amazing.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 04/06/2023 11:14

I've used Wise, low fees and very efficient

Write2023 · 04/06/2023 11:17

No they have access to your full account that’s the only drawback and I’m not sure if it would work if your mobile phone contracts are in a different country either.

That won't work...I can see dd2 taking the piss! 😂
But the post office is a great idea. Will look into it!
We will get pay as you go sim cards.
@Oblahdeeoblahdoe dh has just signed up for wise, I didn't think about it for the dcs.
Thanks everyone
