Check ALL parts of thr bottle. I thought mine was clean but looking at the drinking spout, it was thick mould! 😬

Cotton wool bud for straw and spout.

And/or soak in water with a few drops of bleach as well as washing up liquid

Soak in Milton tabs. Takes 15 minutes, obviously also scrub daily.

I've got a special little brush

I won't buy one with parts to it because I know I am far far too lazy to keep on top of disinfecting it. Mine is stainless steel with a stainless steel top as well and thankfully appears to have no inclination to go mouldy or even musty. It does have a silicone ring at the top of the lid which I peel off every so often but no sign of anything yet and I've been using it for probably 2 years so far.

Steradent denture tablet.

JaninaDuszejko · 03/06/2023 22:34

Dishwashers should deal with that. Or use something easier to clean like a glass or mug.

Steradent denture tablet.

That sounds the lazy way out (and I love it). What have you found the best time length overnight or an hour or..?

I also do this with my contigo mugs, as I find them difficult to clean properly. As they are so narrow. We stock Milton at work so I do it there.

I still remember the story about a young girl that died from a dirty water bottle she took to school. I take mine apart once a week and soak it in baby sterilising tablets in a huge jug, then use a tiny bristle brush to get into the parts.

I remember this too so sad.

This is why I use a basic stainless steel one, with stainless steel lid, no straw etc. I found similar in a more complex one a few years ago, even though I'd been putting it through the dishwasher

mrsbyers · 03/06/2023 22:52

use a chilly bottle here so no spout as such , gets a regular overnight with ace gentle bleach and the lid goes through the dishwasher

ssd · 03/06/2023 22:53

Dishwasher

I know you shouldn't

I'm definitely failing at adulting.

Like a pp mine is stainless steel with no straw. After a couple of years it seems fine without regular scrubbing.

BasketOfOats · 03/06/2023 22:59

Get one with no drinking spout, like a Chilly's one. My children had plastic Sistema but ones with a screw lid not a pop up or turn spout. They get dismantled and go into the dishwasher.

The plastic Sistema ones were in case they were knocked in secondary whilst drinking, I was worried a stainless steel one could potentially cut their upper lip if they were crashed into whilst drinking.

Ugh. I remember dismantling my DC's sippicup lid and finding mould in the spout. I deliberately only buy reusable bottles/travel mugs with very simple lids now - the fewer nooks and crannies, the better.

Overnight, in the nooks with a wee brush n rinse. 😁
