Uh in so much pain :(

dropped something this morning which resulted in my acrylic nail ripping my whole nail off on my pinky. It’s still semi attached so iv put a plaster on but my god my whole finger hurts. 😒😩 What do I do?

Take it right off if you can it will just keep on catching if you don’t. Whatever you do don’t go to A&E…seen this twice and it’s beyond pathetic!

Indoorvoicesbluey · 03/06/2023 19:03

God I can’t think of anything worse than a&e.

I can’t seem to get it off, it’s like it’s stuck back down lol iv cut the acrylic down to stop it catching and put a plaster on :;

This happened to my friends teenage daughter, please keep a check on it as hers went septic and long story short she had to have the top part of her finger amputated. She's paid privately for a prosthetic.

You should get this looked at by a medical professional. My DC ripped off a nail and needed to have it sorted out in surgery

Wishing4sunshine · 03/06/2023 19:20

Sounds extremely painful. Be careful, my daughter's lifted up, became infected and lost the entire nail 🤢

honeybeeeee · 03/06/2023 19:54

I've ripped off part of my nail in acrylic accidents a few times so you have my sympathy! If it's clean you can have acrylic put on top of it - stops anything catching and 'seals' it from infection. Also stops anything rubbing on the nail bed which is super sensitive! Although, I am NOT a doctor! That's just what my nail salon advised for me

I'd ring 111, they may advise minor injuries or a+e.

It's very easy for infection to set in, in ripped nails.

Indoorvoicesbluey · 03/06/2023 21:06

It seems the nail has stuck back on? lol I came seem to take it off. Iv got a plaster on. The pain is horrific and
constant lol

ive done this twice this week so can sympathise on how painful it is. Once I got the acrylic off could see my own nail and then cover with a plaster I took 2 paracetamol and it did help but has taken a few days for the throbbing to stop. Very sore whenever plaster-less fingers comes in contact with water.

CountingMareep · 03/06/2023 21:47

Minor injuries unit or the practice nurse at your local GP, or perhaps the pharmacist at a push. I would treat this like a bad graze or cut; don’t try to stick the fingernail back on as it will grow back eventually from the nail bed, and definitely don’t cover it back up with the acrylic.

Your best bet is to keep it clean (rinse gently with sterile saline if you really must), put a non-adherent dressing with some Micropore tape on (they’re the sort with gauze one side and a sort of perforated plastic the other) and you can also get a finger stall from the pharmacy (that’s a plastic casing for the finger). Don’t muck around with it too much.

Indoorvoicesbluey · 04/06/2023 09:54

I knew I should have got them infilled this week but been so busy!

it’s literally snapped when the acrylic has out grown all the way across and holding on by a little bit the other side. It’s taken my whole natural nail with it. I can’t seem to lift it up take it off so iv had it plastered up. Iv never felt pain like it lol

i managed to cut the acrylic down yesterday as it was long and catching on everything.

I half ripped my natural nail off 2 months ago, but it tore across in half.
I snipped it as low as possible, like you’ve done, kept a plaster over it, and after a few days it started to reattach itself loosely.
I kept trimming it every few days.
After a week I used super and sterile gauze to create a bond, with the still attached part of the nail. Don’t know if it was safe but it grew out ok. Yes it was very painful though.

Lilliflip · 04/06/2023 10:04

Should say super glue and sterile gauze, cut in the shape of my nail.

Indoorvoicesbluey · 04/06/2023 23:00

Thanks all. It’s still so painful, even bending the tip of my finger hurts :(

If there has been an injury causing the nail to be ripped off a&e is needed ... lots of risk of further damage !

stevalnamechanger · 04/06/2023 23:50

depending what you dropped could there be a fracture risk to the finger?

I've previously had a slightly more severe finger injury than this - nail also ripped off and it needed surgery !

Indoorvoicesbluey · 05/06/2023 13:28

Update! Knocked it today and loads of puss starting leaking out of the crack. I have pressed on it and loads came out 😒

OP posts:
Indoorvoicesbluey · 05/06/2023 13:32

I didn’t drop the jump on the finger I just didnt hold it properly so it slipped. :(

OP posts:
HatchetJob · 05/06/2023 13:37

Small injuries, if you ring 111 they can book you an appointment so you aren’t just sat waiting around. If it’s full of puss it needs looking at!

Indoorvoicesbluey · 05/06/2023 14:08

It’s off.. I feel sick lol

Get that checked out with the GP or minor injuries; you might need antibiotics. Other than that, your nail will grow back eventually.

user1471517095 · 09/06/2023 23:16

I did this, kept it covered up and clean. A new nail grew under it pushing the broken bit off eventually.
