Suncream that doesn't ruin clothes!

Just that really, fed up already of my sons clothes being ruined by suncream.

Currently using a few different Boots Soltan but they all stain.
Tried Asda in the past as they were highly rated for sun protection but sadly stain terribly.

Piz buin also stain and Nivea. Best one I had was a couple of years ago but you can't get it anymore, it was a Banana Boat spray.

Tell me your recommendations please!!

I find all creams a nightmare to use and prefer an oil spray, much easier to apply. We currently have the nivea ones. I haven't noticed any clothes staining. Hth

I've read that the ingredients avobenzone is the thing that causes staining, is there any other ingredients to avoid?
Honestly so fed up already if the amount of clothes ruined and we've only just started to get decent weather!!

I have a bit of a hack that helps, I apply ariel liquid detergent to any suncream stains, rub it in and leave it for a couple of hours before washing and that lifts the majority of stains

mikado1 · 03/06/2023 10:22

Tried a 'hack this week that worked. Spray the neck line and edge of sleeves with hair spray! It keeps the suncream from sticking. Otherwise I apply well before dressing and take care when reapplying. However apart from neckline on white clothes I don't notice much staining, LRP SPF. I did get some on leggings this week that dropped on me while reapplying and I washed the area with fairy liquid before maching wash and all well. It was pretty soaked in too as was wearing them for the rest of the day.

I've ended up throwing out the stained clothes already so sadly won't be able to try the tips thank you. But I will try them with future clothing!!!

Is a mineral formula the way to go do you think?

I've only noticed staining on white clothes. So only school polo tops I'm not bothered about being a bit yellowed. I just don't buy white clothes. Solves the problem!

All the sun creams you’ve listed are the worst for staining.

Calypso is non staining as is ultrasun

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/06/2023 11:22

Yes also never wear white in the summer! Which is a shame but otherwise I end up with a yellow neckline within hours, as I’m really pale so need lots of sunscreen.

one thing that can help is buying the all day sunscreen then applying before dressing. I need a top up but it works for my slightly less pale family.

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/06/2023 12:52

Ambre solair doesn't stain.

Diktat is the worst for staining IME

LemonFrosting · 03/06/2023 16:00

I'll give ultrasun a try, thank you all!

That calypso looks like it's got avobenzone in which is meant to stain?

I avoid white as much as possible but sadly sons uniform is white polo!! 😕
