How long does it take to fix a burst water main?

Have been without water since 12, annoyingly on the one day I decided not to have a shower in the morning and to have a bath tonight (dreaming of bubbles!). Lots of washing up to do. Engineer due to come in the next few hours. Is it usually a fairly quick fix or can it take days? (that is if it even is a burst water main!)

It can take days. Normally at the weekend there’s much less manpower. So one emergency crew per area and they have to prioritise stuff. Also will depend how much digging needs to be done, does it need a road closure, etc.

if you ring up they should have an idea of timescale

Can be a week or more but think the water company has to provide alternative running water or bottled drinking water if supply is interrupted.

I'm just wondering about where I can go to have a shower and to bathe my son. We only moved recently so don't know anyone in the area that well and my parents are over an hour and a half away. He's got afro hair and it's impossible to brush and wash without copious amounts of running water. Very frustrating. Sure I'll figure it out!

They were meant to attend by midnight last night on emergency call out but nobody has.

Could you go to your local leisure centre & use their showers?

It's very annoying being without water. Your water company should look after you and keep you informed. There's a great podcast all about water, called Waterfall, and there is an episode (23) called "know your rights" which lets you know a bit about what to expect. Waterfall is on all podcast players, here's the link to the episode on Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/23-know-your-water-rights/id1535453330?i=1000600180146

Hope you find it helpful!
