First car - accessories and must haves

I’ve just got my first car.

It’s used but low mileage and well looked after

it has cd player and aux, no Bluetooth but I’ve added a Bluetooth fm transmitter , but it seems to have interference a fair bit.

there’s no parking sensors/aids

Is there anything people would recommend to add to it to make life easier in terms of music/sat nav/general. I don’t really care for handsfree calling when I’m trying to focus.

Oo congratulations on the first car!

I love my mini car bin! Fits in the car door and it's handy for straw wrappers / tickets etc and I just think makes it feel so tidy.

I also have little hooks on the seat headrest bit that I can hang a handbag from - means it's always easy to get to and doesn't roll around on the floor.

My mum swears by these little magnifying mirror clip ons she has for her wing mirrors, they don't fit my wing mirrors but apparently they incredible for reversing / better wide views!

You can get mini reversing sensors / cameras if you need one on the car, like little baby monitors for reversing. I've got one built in and tbh it's very handy I think.

I also have cup holder extenders, but ridiculous but I have oversized cups that need adapting.

Also in my boot an emergency kit! It has water (replace every now and then), high vis vests, cone / triangle, foil blankets, flashing lights / torch and some snack breakfast bars. I've not broken down yet, but if I did this is what I think I'd need.

For music the aux should be good but you might just need an adaptor depending on your phone 😊

Sat nav you càn just use your phone. I would get parking sensors/ reversing camera...not essential but makes life easier.

Furry steering wheel cover for winter when it comes.
Might look naf, but totally worth it in December.

Dash cam in case of accidents

Definitely this. I would also add get it permanently wired/fixed in. Halfords (and probably other places) do this. Well worth it and a game changer.

YY to dashcam
jump starter (unless you changed battery)
loo roll or tissues
Hi-vi vest and triangle
water
blanket

Dash cam.

I see their benefit so many times in my job and wouldn't be without one. I also witnessed a serious RTC a couple years ago and the subsequent dash cam footage clearly showed who was and wasn't at fault.

My car already has parking sensors which I poo-pooed initially, but have since come to rely on totally.

If you do go dash cam - get a rear camera wired in at the same time.

First aid kit (and the knowledge of how to use it.)
Hi-vis jacket and warning triangles.

These are GREAT examples and things I didn’t think of! Thank you!
