Pre school jabs

Hello all - DD has her pre school jabs soon. She nearly had to have a blood test the other week and was absolutely petrified at the thought - so I’m pretty sure she’s scared of needles.

Should I tell her a few days before, on the day, just before, or not at all? I don’t want to wind her up needlessly, but I’m also not sure how keen I am in the idea of Surprising her.

Any tips around this for her?

Also how many jabs is it/how big is the needle and where will she be jabbed please and what kind of clothes should I dress her in. Thanks xx

Yes get the chickenpox if you can afford it. It’s 2 injections, boots and superdrug do it so really easy, and it’s either give on the same day as the others or wait 4 weeks.

I wouldn’t tell her these are the last ones tbh - I did that with DS, told him he won’t have another one until he’s 12 as per the vax schedule and then covid happened 😄 we never got him vaxxed for covid but my point is, you never know what could happen. She could get super ill for example, heaven forbid, and need injections. Also you might end up considering the chicken pox vax.

Just chill and remain calm and she will feed off you.

Thank you, I don't think I will book her in for the Chicken Pox jab on the same day... might be slightly traumatic and I think she would hate me! I'll try and get it booked in for 4 weeks after her jabs though! xx

It’s usually one in the top of each arm or one the top of each thigh.

If she needs blood tests again, given you say that traumatised her, make sure she goes to a hospital with play therapists and she has numbing cream as she will find it fun rather than frightening and it will then help for future vaccinations.

Stop thinking it’s going to be traumatic!

she will be feeding off you and on the basis of this thread - you are beside yourself

How did everyone else explain getting them to their DC please?

The day before/ morning of I’d play the episode of bing when he’s getting his jabs done. It’s quite good.
I then wouldn’t tell her until you’re there, but I’d use the language from the bing episode to remind her it’s going to be fine.

If she's a Peppa fan, there's a great book called Peppa Gets A Vaccination. It explains the process really clearly.

Great tips on here but I would also say don't call them jabs, just the name sounds painful! Injections or immunisation is fine
