...do you think they contain something that could bring down the government? All the commentators etc seem to be quite suprised/confused that he's trying to block these messages being sent as raw unredacted data to the covid enquiry (including robert buckland qc). It makes me wonder just how much sensitive info or awfulness from Johnson he's trying to hide, and why? Anyone got any ideas? Baseless conjecture as welcome as sensible answers :)

My suspicion (based on nothing) is that they are just really bloody horrible about other people and the situation and Boris is pretty Teflon but rishi and plenty others need to maintain their image more. Simple things like I am what aping my sister currently about a family party. We are being pretty horrible about our parents, cousins, auntys and everyone else, along the lines “it’ll be that bloody tuna salad she’s so proud of” do you think she’s learned where eyeliner goes yet? Wonder if he’s going to iron a shirt this time. We’re bitches and would die if shame if they became public. Assuming that but it’s the general population, nurses, school children and the elderly.

Is it called mutually assured destruction or something? Sounds like Boris is opening the can of worms.

Except it’s illegal to use a a Faraday cage to block signals to a phone in the UK.

You’d better tell GCHQ then! Faraday cages are widely used in forensic, security and research contexts in the UK.

The whole thing is just... I think it's safe to assume that whatever is in there is more damaging for Sunak than BoJo.

Separately, I feel a bit thick but... Boris Johnson's old phone is turned off and the security services have been advised can't be switched back on... what is it that would happen if it was switched on?

@soundsys The security risk is meant to be that China/ Russia/ the UK tabloids or whoever is said to have the spies locked on to his old phone will have access to its contents if it is switched on. Assuming they hadn’t already copied it all by April 2021…

No it isn't.

But a Faraday cage isn't going to solve the issue anyway, and it's ridiculous to think the usual stuff hasn't been considered (that's to a PP and not you).

I know these people, went to school with some of them. I expect the messages will clearly reflect their true nature, not the fake persona of smiling 'we're all in this together ' but the really nasty, dark heart of who they are. The unguarded 'let the bodies pile up' type comments and the utter contempt they hold for the public.

The WA messages will show both PM Sunak and PM Johnson as the weak, venal, corrupt, incompetent and stupid fuckwits they are.

Sunak, like his predecessor, once more exposed as a liar.
