Can I progress working part-time? (Allied Healthcare)

Hello!

I am a 1st year mature Allied Healthcare Professional student (won't say which one as it's outing). I have two young children and several disabilities and health conditions which mean I would struggle with full-time work on qualifying (even with reasonable adjustments).

However, I am still keen to progress with my career and hopefully make it to band 7 at some point. I have several years of full-time work experience but have realised over the last couple of years that I need to pace myself a bit...

Has anyone managed to progress to a band 6 / 7 role despite working part-time? Or know anyone who has?

Thank you for reading x

I think very much depends on your AHP profession and role. If you in a profession with fewer numbers with lots of vacancies in specialist roles then it might well be possible.

I’m a physio and in my specialty as a Band 7 I had to commit to FT. Absolutely no chance I could have got the job competing against others who could work FT.

As someone said above, it'd sort of depend on your role.
I'm an ODP and also part time. I don't envisage any issues getting beyond band 5 in the future (When applying for new jobs, I was offered a part time band 6 on return from mat leave but it just didn't work for me at the time - currently have no desire and enjoying focusing on toddler life and being a 'worker bee'). My departments part time band 6 has just been promoted to a 7. And we've just hired a new 6 part time too.

Thank you both :)

Best thing to do would be to get out of clinical work after a few years and into management with the personal situation you're in.
