I have had a shite month. Endless pointless work drama, moving tedium, ongoing friendship conflict, mother staying for three weeks in my tiny apartment, and now my dog hates me because I put up a curtain in his favourite spot.

I need something lighthearted and funny to read. Something that will make me laugh, that requires little thinking and that makes no important social commentary. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Flappy Entertains
Flappy Investigates

by Santa Montefiore

This is very, very good. When you start off you think it’s going to be really deep and upsetting but the sudden plot twist makes it really very light hearted.

Why Mummy Drinks by Gill Simms. DH got me the first one on a whim, and I've loved every one she's written since. DH on the other hand, wishes he hadn't got me into them because I sit there chuckling to myself and he can't hear telly

Diary of a Nobody, by George and Weedon Grossmith. Serialised in 1888 and then published in 1892, still very funny today!

The Diary of a Provincial Lady by E.M.Delafield.
I love this book so much! 😁

@SpecialSpaghetti

Totally agree on the Adrian Mole books!!
I sat and read "the prostrate years" last night - it was brilliant - had me in fits of giggles all night.

Spanish Steps: Travels with my Donkey by Tim Moore. I have never laughed out loud so much when reading a book.

I'm slightly biased because my friend wrote this harpercollins.co.uk/products/mrs-harts-marriage-bureau-sheena-wilkinson?variant=40115843006542 but it's a lovely frothy read.

Another vote for Jodi Taylor here. I love her.

This isn’t a novel, but I loved. Diplomatic Baggage. Great for a distraction from anything serious: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1526654911/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1685657099&sr=8-1
