Do all Aldis require you to log in via their app in order to activate the entrance barrier?

I have only just become interested in Aldi. I tried to get into my local one but was told that I needed an active phone account just to go in and buy a bottle of water. Is this normal for Aldi?

I agree. In any case, phone snatching is extremely common in London so I wouldn't really feel comfortable using it while walking around in a public place.

I know that all the young people seem to do this!

It's arguably safer in your hand than in your pocket/bag, where it's much easier to steal it...

It'd take a much more brazen thief to steal it from your hand than to swipe it from your clothing.

Thanks! I will try a bigger store. I have heard good things about their stand mixers. I was hoping to lure the DCs in for drinks and then take a really good look around.

I would definitely recommend a bigger store as there is much more choice of items 'in the middle' and no smartphone entry restrictions 😀

The middle aisle stock changes from week to week you need to Google special buys to see if they are likely to be available Elior

The only one that requires the app is Aldi's new Shop&Go concept in Greenwich. The rest don't have the technology and it is strictly for the Greenwich pilot shop.

Personally, I rather like the fact that I can scan the QR code, walk in, grab what I want and walk out without faffing about with tills, errors and staff incompetence.

Nope definitely not in my local ones nor the one near my mum (which is in the LB of Greenwich).

Definitely not in my Aldi as of just now!

Tbf, there is a huge student population around the store and they seem very happy with it.

I'll definitely give Aldi another attempt when the stand mixers are back. I wasn't aware that this technology was fully replacing all other option in supermarkets. I think I have seen it used in Waitrose in Westfield but there are traditional tills and self-service options which still exist alongside it.
