When will the coffee and twix breaks no longer be "allowed"?

I'm sitting here having a coffee and a twix while DS 10 months is playing on the floor.

It just dawned on me, how long until I can't do this? As he will try to rob my twix!!

My toddler is allergic to milk and egg, it makes her throw up. I convinced her that my licorice contains egg Grin.

Be grateful you got this far.

The three year old actually head to my plate with fork aloft, which they swap for mine and then eat my food. Daddy sis unhindered by smalls.

They're obv not allowed coffee. Twin 1 actually came at me and my new mug licking his lips and whilst I was laughing, put his finger in to taste it. Then obv his brother copied.

I have terrible children I've raised poorly 😂

"You wouldn't like it, it's got peppermint in it" works here. (Insert appropriate hated flavouring)
But I have to eat cheese with my head in the fridge or the dog wants it.

philautia · 01/06/2023 14:04

I waited until nap time or bed time and then once maternity leave was over, could fully enjoy whatever snacks I wanted at work.

IHeartGeneHunt · 01/06/2023 14:04

No idea how I got bold letters there!

Alloveragain3 · 01/06/2023 14:05

Another mum whose DS has food allergies. Bless him, once I tell him the chocolate has dairy, he loses interest fast. I do feel guilty, but he eats far too much sugar anyway!

I eat treats in front of my kids, even when very little, and they just get told ‘you have sweets sometimes and I don’t, I have them sometimes and you don’t!’.

They can actually comprehend that. And it’s a healthy message for them that they are not entitled to everything all the time.

Depends on how often you have a ‘treat’ and what it is though. If you’re scoffing a twix an hour then that’s not a great lesson to teach your kids. If it’s a daily twix and cuppa then give them their own snack at the same time.

😂

zerosugarcola · 01/06/2023 14:35

around my sisters kids now all grown up when they was small we used to put our coke in cups and say hot hot if they went near it said it was black coffee .

I remember at toddler DD's hearing tests - she had glue ear and constant burst eardrums - them telling me about her "significant" hearing loss and me saying "but it can't be thar bad, she can hear me opening chocolate from 2 rooms away."

My tip is keep the good stuff near the washing machine and scoff it during a spin cycle, with your head in a cupboard.

Hoppinggreen · 01/06/2023 14:38

When I was pg I went to look at a nursery and DH met me there, I hadn’t eaten much as I was rushing around at work so DH grabbed me a chocolate bar.
I felt bit faint so sat down and DH passed me the chocolate, I opened it and looked up - I was surrounded by toddlers

greenacrylicpaint · 01/06/2023 14:38

you can still have it. but you will have to tell dc that your snack is licorice, spinach, wine.... whatever dc find Envy

Mariposista · 01/06/2023 14:41

When you are back and work and are having that coffee and twin at your desk (or wherever your place of work is if you don't work at a desk). Your kid will be at daycare, none the wiser unless you tell him haha.

You used two asterisks, it will bold everything between them 😊

I used to hide my snacking in the pantry. Door open stood just inside. Yet by 18 months they could smell a biscuit going in my mouth. So I did it in small bites often. Even if I waited till they were busy and in the lounge, they appear from nowhere. Like when you make a phone call.

If I even look at the pantry these days, DD says, “You're going to eat sweeties, aren’t you?” She doesn’t just sense the crinkle of wrappers – she senses my THOUGHTS

Summerfun54321 · 01/06/2023 14:57

Biscuits and cakes are to be eaten in doorways holding the offending item out of sight while watching your child. Or invest in a tall larder cupboard door that opens to create a shield between the larder door and wall so you can stand at the cupboard fully hidden whilst scoffing forbidden treats.

Catabogus · 01/06/2023 15:11

And beware of “Mummy! Why does your breath smell like chocolate?!”

maddiemookins16mum · 01/06/2023 16:02

My DD could hear a biscuit tin opening in her sleep.

PurBal · 01/06/2023 16:04

I have to drink everything (and I mean everything) out of a mug or DS thinks he can have some… 22mo.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/06/2023 16:13

Am I cruel? I would just snack in front of DS and tell him he could have his after lunch/nap etc.

I don't really do chocolate though so mine was always a bag of crisps

pontipinemum · 02/06/2023 10:16

😂These are hilarious.

@Hoppinggreen I can picture that😂

All this amazing subterfuge is giving me a brilliant laugh, thank you. Solidarity to all those eating treats with their heads inside cupboards because they're 'looking for more beans' 😂
