Job ideas for 8 hours a week?

Lilyjam · 31/05/2023 20:19

I'm looking for a side job, maybe 8-10 hours a week. Open to anything really, just not keen on working in a bar/pub. I work in social media full time, and recently got a new job with a pay rise, but need a bit extra to cover some recent rent/bills hikes, and help save for a big family wedding in Canada next year.

Any suggestions for work that offers flexible hours like this, and what might pay the best? I've had a look at a couple of cafes and shops locally but most want someone for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Thanks!

Cleaning?

NuffSaidSam · 31/05/2023 20:44

Childcare if you've got any experience? Either a couple of evening babysits or one full day/couple of half days.

Hospitality, f&b or house keeping/laundry.

I'm applying for a school cleaning job 6.30-8.30am Monday to Friday, if you don't mind early starts might be an option?

Effingmagicfairy · 31/05/2023 20:57

DS works 3 x 4 hour shifts a week at Primark alongside college, shifts can be between 9-7pm, 7 days per week. Shift pattern is known couple of weeks in advance.

Nursing home. They sometimes need kitchen staff for short shifts or someone to go round and make cups of tea

Dog sitting. You stay in their house (use their utilities) and basically keep the dog company

Can happily recommend being an online shopper for a supermarket. I did it for Sainsburys in the early morning (3:30-7:30) before my full time job (8-4:30). Just put some music on and get scanning!

Just make sure you go to bed early.

Dinner lady?

Andanotherone01 · 31/05/2023 21:28

I was going to say dinner lady but I’m guessing you are working your substantive role during the day

2bazookas · 31/05/2023 21:29

Is there a theatre/ cinema in your area? See if they need stewards, as a bonus you often get to watch the show

My DD also has this Primark contract. It works well.

My cleaner does a full time college course . She has 2 4 hour cleaning clients and she is wonderful and very much adored

Online tutoring

Lilyjam · 31/05/2023 22:57

Thanks everyone. I wouldn't mind cleaning (not sure I'm very good at it though!), working at a cinema or being a supermarket order picker, will look into those. There's no Primark near me unfortunately but I did hear that they do flexible contracts.

Not sure about childcare and dog walking - I have no experience and assume you need insurance/training?

AmazonFlex but you need to factor in petrol costs

If you aren’t overly fussed what you do, ‘crew members’ are always needed.

NHS bank work in admin roles or domestic/estates etc roles?

CrumbliestCrumble · 01/06/2023 00:03

School lunchtime assistant

If you've got a Red Cross warehouse nearby, they pay minimum wage for sorting stuff (mostly new stuff from likes of Zara and Next apparently). It's casual staff so you can come and go as you like.
