Fridge freezer (with plastic that doesn’t crack please)

I need to replace my Bosch Fridge Freezer. The frustrating thing is, it’s still working fine however so much of the plastic has cracked and broken, including the door shelves. The handles have fallen off and one of the hinges has now broken so it’s tricky to shut it properly.

So I need something that no only keeps stuff cold, it needs to actually last general family usage.

I was thinking Beko, we have had one before which was fab but then I read that there is an issue with them catching on fire.

I’m very reluctant to but another Bosch as I contacted them about the weak plastic not long after we bought it and they didn’t give a s#*t. I wish I’d pushed and returned it now.

Siemens? Miele maybe?

It needs to be a large straight up and down one, we don’t have space for a wide, American style one.

Can't help sorry ,but I'm in the same position .

The handle came off our Beko after 11 months and the replacement lasted 2 wks. So avoid Beko. All the freezer drawers are snapped but that is 6 yes old now.

They just don't make them to last anymore

We've had our Samsung fridge freezer for about 10 years now and nothing at all has broken on it, it almost looks as good as new.

Our Samsung American fridge freezer has lasted 3 years of teenagers hurling themselves at it for a protein/dairy fix at least once every five minutes. And it's cavernous - there was room to put all the Christmas food for 12 for two days last year. Very happy with it!

Siemens, Neff and Bosch are (or were when I worked for a client of theirs years ago) part of the same group.

In order of quality/design it went Siemens lowest then Bosch then Neff (although Bosch/Neff dep on type of product: Neff was top for cookers/hobs; Bosch for laundry/fridges etc. Like I say that was a few years ago though.

Miele is £££ but not sure it's worth the money now as their quality has dipped too. Not even sure they offer the huge guarantees that they used to on every product either.

I think Beko's issues were to do with using plastic back panels so you can make sure you buy one with metal back, and one without handles (so the door has a slot for you to ooen it with. At least that's one thing less to break.😂

I replaced a relatively short lived Beko with a Frigidaire which I replaced with a Bosch recently.
I did this because my washing machine and dishwasher are so good. Please don't tell me the Bosch fridge freezer will be disappointing. I'm not sure I can take the pain after a really bad run with fridge freezers (we have chest freezers and a big fridge in the barn and they've all lasted years!).

Samsung - ours came with a 10 year guarantee and has passed its 17th birthday. Still looks as good as the day it arrived. Double doors at the top with deep freezer drawer (2 tiered) below. It's great.

I bought a Siemens fridge and Beko freezer. Although they look virtually the same in design, the difference in the handle, shelves, racks and drawers etc are not. The Siemens parts are far sturdier and stronger and have extra touches to them. It was worth paying a bit extra for, especially as the kids are forever opening it!

That said, my Beko has been fantastic and my previous fridge was Beko which was also great value for money. Never had an issue with any Beko product except the inside parts are on the flimsy side.

You can get new shelves made at your local glass shop, one near me advertises it as a service if you ever need to just replace a shelf.

Mine has been fine and has never broken down. The trouble is, they work really well but the plastic quality isn’t up to the same standard. Mine was shockingly awful. I’ve also just had a look at my DFs Bosch fridge freezer, 4 years of very careful use - it already has a badly cracked veg drawer.

Im also dreaming of a new freezer due to cracked and broken drawers that have never sat and slid on their runners. Its a hotpoint so wont be getting another hotpoint, it still works though so suffering and putting up with the broken drawer fronts. Ive read samsung are good and recommended by which?

MinnieMountain · 01/06/2023 05:35

Miele is great quality (we have a dishwasher and washing machine by them) but I don’t think it’s worth the extra for a fridge.

StillSmallVoice · 01/06/2023 14:02

I have a Fisher and Paykel for about seven years. No problems at all and it's a really good fridge.
