Is it rude to say I’ve been there..?!

So for example my friend is on holiday at a location and I remember it well as my other friend had a wedding at this location. But is it odd to say I’ve been there, it’s a bit like showing off? Isn’t it?

I’d be happy if someone told me they’d been as I’d then be able to ask for recommendations of trips, etc.

Unless your reply to everyone that’s gone anywhere is “I’ve been there” then it’s not rude and it’s not showing off. I’d actually find it ruder to not say you’ve been somewhere - if you’ve been before then you might know some lovely spots to visit or places to eat/avoid etc!

I'd say something like, 'Lucky you. I loved that place.' That's not showing off that you'd been there'd one that before she did.

I mean it's context isn't it.

A dismissive "been there" and change the subject. Rude.

"oh yes I've been there" and then allowing the conversation to continue, fine.

"oh yes, I went there when I was 22, and I got the coach this one time and there was an Italian man who swooned in the aisle as he saw me..... And on and on with personal anecdote." rude.

"oh I love Pompeii, let me know if you want any recommendations" fine.

Yes I don’t want to show off!

But why would be showing off? People travel it's normal
