Do you go to spinning classes?

If so - do you take a padded seat cover with you?
I enjoyed my first class today but my bottom is so sore! Does it get any easier?
Or shall I just purchase a padded seat cover? Would appreciate any recommendations for covers. Thank you.

I used to do spin I loved it! my current gym does no do spin though

first time I did had same problem I could no walk for about 4 days was so sore!

I promise you it does get better and I was doing it 3 times a week without no issues 🙂

Findyourneutralspace · 30/05/2023 21:36

You do get used to it. It takes a few sessions though. I’ve just been back for the first time in about a month and have a numb bum again. I’m just going to ride it out though. It will pass.

Selfesteem23 · 30/05/2023 21:37

I’ve got padded shorts! They helped in my early days but I do it at home now and I still wear them. Keep at it though it’s great, does get easier on the bottom

daisychain01 · 30/05/2023 21:38

I do 2-3 spin classes a week and I just use my padded shorts or leggings that I wear for going out on my road bike.

WellTidy · 30/05/2023 21:38

when I started, I wasn’t sure I could get through the warm up, let alone do the class, as my bottom and undercarriage were so sore. It was really awful. I now wear padded leggings, they also do padded cycling shirts. I bought mine on Amazon, but you can get good value ones in decathlon. I wouldn’t do a class without one.

Fuckthebucket · 30/05/2023 21:44

If you go consistently, your bum will get used to it after a few sessions.

I tried paddled shorts but kept laughing at myself in them 🙈

Peridot1 · 30/05/2023 21:46

I haven’t been for a few years but had a padded seat. My bum doesn’t need the extra padding in padded shorts!

bibbityboppityboo · 30/05/2023 21:46

I also have padded shorts like PP!

At home on my bike I use the padded seat and shorts, when I go to outside classes I wear padded shorts and it's definitely a game changer. No more horrendously sore bottoms!

LouLou198 · 30/05/2023 22:52

Thank you for all your responses. Definitely don't need any padding on me so I think I will give the shorts a miss! Grin
I will see how I get on over the next few weeks and hopefully it will get easier.

I’ve a good padded curvy bum ( thanks spinning) but the padding still helps!

Agree with this. I do 3 classes a week and my arse is hardened to it.

Madamecastafiore · 31/05/2023 08:16

You'll get through it, got to wait it out, after a couple of weeks your hooo ha will harden up and get used to it!

RausageSoul · 31/05/2023 08:23

After my first ever class I googled 'spin class sore vagina'. I still went back and now go 3 mornings a week. You get used to it, not sure if this is good or not!

One time the man I front of me burst his gel cover and I thought he'd had a medical incident

cherrypied · 31/05/2023 12:06

Yes it's sore but you do toughen up- I got a gel seat cover for less than a tenner.

Husband wear Padded bib shorts for cycling but they are more expensive than a cover. It's not to do with you personal padding though!

WellTidy · 31/05/2023 14:39

Honestly, my bum is naturally very well padded and there is no way I’d do a spin class without my padded leggings. My gym top covers it ant the back, and even if it didn’t, I wouldn’t care a jot.

Write2023 · 31/05/2023 14:42

Argos do padded seats for under £10.

MotherWol · 31/05/2023 14:42

One thing I’ve found that helps is making sure your saddle is at the right height. Since you don’t have to think about being able to put a foot down like on a regular bike, you can have the saddle up quite high, and that means you’re not putting as much weight on your bottom when you sit. The instructor should be able to show you how to adjust it, but I aim for having the saddle at hip height when I’m standing next to the bike.

Yippeenewjob · 31/05/2023 14:49

I used some padded cycle shorts when I first started spinning. They really helped initially, but quite quickly found I didn’t need them once I got used to it.

Ive just taken up road cycling and am definitely needing my padded cycling shorts!

girlmeetsboy · 31/05/2023 15:15

I used to teach 5 spin classes a week and always used a gel seat

That’s interesting I’ve always assumed making it lower would be easier on the bum! Will try this next time.

Azealeasinbloom · 31/05/2023 15:37

As others say , you get used to it, but for pain in the vulva area rather than your sit bones, you could try using some lube before a class. And play around with the bike set up - seat height, handlebar height, distance between them. Some positions suit better than others depending on your own shape.

bonfirebash · 31/05/2023 15:58

Definitely gets easier. I was sore after my first 20 min peloton ride and now I'm ok for 90 mins. I do stand up regularly though

WellTidy · 31/05/2023 21:12

I keep my handlebars pretty high, I’m very upright compared to everyone else. But it helps take the pressure off, so I’m going to continue with it. Spin instructors generally advise me to lower them, but I’m clear that it is more comfortable for me to have them higher.
