Trooping the Colour

Mr Syd & me have tickets to the first Trooping the Colour this coming weekend (it's the Major General's review this weekend, then the one reviewed by the Prince of Wales is the following week before the one with the King on 17/06). The Army website says that there is a dress code, which (for civilians) is a lounge suit and tie for men, and similar for women.

I have no problem with this. I have plenty in my wardrobe to choose from for this. I have pointed out the dress code to Mr Syd and he is now grumbling about having to wear a tie and dress trousers and shoes.

My question is this: if you have been before, or are in the know, how strict are they with the dress code? I don't want to be battling my way into central London only for my partner to be turned away for lack of tie (for example).

We're seated on the very back row of one of the stands, if it makes a difference!

Thanks.

It was a few years ago since I went, but they were very strict in the 90s.

Still very strict! My dad is a retired Captain and would merrily turn people away from functions for an incorrect form of dress.

Thank you very much. Sorry for the late reply - I've been busy trying to persuade Mr Syd to at least put a tie in his pocket on Saturday! 😂
