Copenhagen and Stockholm are really easy, including on public transport.

Also great fun / lively cities in general.

Thanks, I've been to Copenhagen but not Stockholm. Thought of it more as a winter destination tbh.

Looking for easy transport, ideally affordable and not the obvious choices as we've been to most.

Like the idea of Spain but guessing prams won't be easy in most older cities

Cities in Europe (including U.K.) have the same challenges of older buildings, narrow pavements etc. just go where you fancy going

Not helpful in the slightest.

We've taken a buggy to Granada and Nerja in Spain and also and all over Emilia-Romagna in Italy (Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini etc).

Honestly what @gogohmm said above is accurate. I was worried about the cobbled streets with a buggy when planning for our holidays last year but in the end we coped just fine 😁

Not helpful in the slightest.

I mean, it’s pretty helpful! I’ve never struggled in any city with a young child apart from Venice.

I mostly stuck Dd in a sling thought so I didn’t have to cart the buggy around. Only if we went out for a long dinner so she could sleep in it.

Thanks, Nerja sounds interesting.

And I get what you and gogohmm are saying about cobbles. I actually live in a very cobbly town. I think there are some subtle differences I'm hoping for, like a quick journey from the airport, easy public transport e.g. Budapest, Berlin etc (done both to death). Whereas other cities have been a PITA with a suitcase let alone a baby

Stockholm is a lovely summer city. Better in the summer than in the winter, I think.

CottonSock · 31/05/2023 16:15

Berlin was surprisingly bad!

Krakow we did with a wheelchair fine. Caught a taxi from the airport but travelled on the bus back. Most of the centre is walkable. Trams were fab. Cheap. Trip out to zakopane was incredible

Brussels very roll-able. Especially going by eurostar. Atonium was fab. More expensive though

@Notfeelinglikemyselftoday Bologna airport was very close to the city itself, we just took a short monorail ride. I think it was about 20 minutes in total. For Spain we took a taxi to Granada and then for our overnight to Nerja we had to take a two hour bus, so that's possibly not as convenient as you were wanting 😅

How old is your little one? My son was 18 months and then 22 months on our holidays.

Not against a sling hol tbh, but I do have back issues and worry about being a constant sweaty mess.

He'll be between 9-12 months depending on when I get my arse into gear to book it 😅 currently not mobile which I've read is a good time to go

I recommend Prague. You baby will be pretty active by the time you go and there are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants with kids corners etc. it is a very child centred city. Also, you get to use public transport for free when you are accompanied by a child under 3. Your partner would have to pay but one adult can go free on buses, trams and metro. A lot of the streets are cobbled but so many pedestrianised areas it's really grand with a pram.

KnickerlessParsons · 31/05/2023 18:15

Just avoid Venice!

TheBirdintheCave · 31/05/2023 19:04

@Notfeelinglikemyselftoday I've heard that too :D Didn't get to test the theory myself though as my son is a pandemic baby and travel was still heavily restricted during his first summer 😭 Travelling with a toddler is a lot of fun though 😬

I hope you have a lovely time wherever you pick!
