Walk in Shower - How to Clean?

Icequeen01 · 30/05/2023 14:55

Just had a walk in shower put in my elderly mum’s bathroom following a broken hip. I will be cleaning the bathroom for her as she struggles now. However, I’ve cleaned it twice now and each time I’ve ended up soaked. Didn’t help I accidentally turned the rain shower on myself today! If you have a walk in shower do you just go in bare feet and roll up your jeans/trousers? Am I missing a trick somewhere? I’ve got an actual shower cubicle at home and it’s so much easier to clean!

Squeegee the walls and floor. Brief mist with shower cleaner then wipe down. I use the towel I have just dried myself with on the floor and to buff up the screens.

Same as this apart from I use glass cleaner on the screens as opposed to the towel

I hate rainfall showers for this reason amongst others. Is there not a removable handset at all?

Yes there is also a removable shower head but I turned the knob the wrong way 🤣

I usually* clean it when I'm already undressed to have a shower so it doesn't matter if I get wet. Otherwise I'd do it barefoot with trousers rolled up or wear my housework clogs.

*well actually I usually make DD clean it but she does it the same way

Icequeen01 · 30/05/2023 16:45

Thanks everyone, I spray the floor then give it a wipe then spray it with the handheld shower head and then buff dry. I do the same with the glass. Perhaps I spray too much water and need to learn which way to turn the shower knob! Failing that, perhaps @Natsku can let me borrow her DD!

Hah, happy to lend her out but I feel she'll feel less happy about it!

So much experience of this, and yes, take my socks off and roll up my trouser legs. Spray with cleaner, or washing up liquid depending upon stocks, lightly scrub with a softened green pad, rinse off with the removal shower head. Then I use a window squeegee or a water vacuum to get the thick of the water off, then buff dry.

Voila!

I always clean mine when I’m in the shower anyway.

Cyberpixie · 30/05/2023 17:05

I have large walk in shower but it has a shallow tray and half height folding glass screen. Not sure if this is useful if the shower is different but I have a rechargeable scrubber brush with various attachments on a long handle and it does the hard work for me while I stand outside, then I can reach over and put the shower on to rinse.

FixTheBone · 30/05/2023 17:11

As a previous poster said - I clean our shower just before I'm about to actually have a shower, after I've done the other bathrooms.

Finishing the cleaning with a nice shower is the best way for me.....

I don't know how I would do it if I was a professional cleaner, or cleaning somebody else's shower though......

If it makes you feel better op, I’m a cleaner and I soak myself by turning rainfall showers on almost daily! It’s the worst.

blobby10 · 30/05/2023 17:29

I too clean the walk in shower when I’m in it but, as I’m a numpty, it took me a couple of goes to realise how carefully you need to rinse the base when you’ve cleaned it! I kept forgetting and then got in next time only to slip over 😩x learnt my lesson now!!

Thank you, so it's not just me that does it this way. It would be so much easier if it was my own shower and I could clean it whilst I was in it but I don't want to have to have a shower when I'm at my mum's each time 😀

Hahahaha.. I'm a bath person but cleaned a holiday house for a few years.. I'm also 6ft and curvy...(ie quite large)
I would always leave it till last. After 5 hours of cleaning 4 bedrooms (changing all bedding), 3 reception rooms, 3 other bathrooms, mowing the lawn etc etc I used to finish off in the shower and clean it whilst I was cooling down (I always bought clean clothes to change into) ...only way...

Lilly0909 · 30/05/2023 19:31

I’m a professional cleaner - don’t turn the shower on!

  1. spray a mixture of white vinegar and a small amount of washing up liquid all over the shower screen and walls
  2. spray viakal on the chrome
  3. leave to sit for 5 minutes - scrub the shower floor with cream cleaner while you wait
  4. scrub the vinegar on the shower screen with a dry brush/scrubbing pad
  5. wet the scrubbing pad and scrub the walls
  6. rinse off the viakal by pouring water in a jug over it slowly
  7. rinse the shower floor with water from a jug
  8. buff the shower screen dry - the vinegar should dry very quickly
xx

Wow - thank you @Lilly0909. You certainly know how to clean! Do you fancy a job 😀 I did wonder if I was sloshing around too much water!

I clean my shower with me in it, after a shower. I have a pair of scratchy body gloves, a not -too- whiffy bleach spray and go for it. I use the handheld attachment to rinse and squeejee the walls and glass doors.
