Fleas but no pet! Help!

God I hate them I hate them I hate them!

I'm getting bitten by fleas. Classic bastard flea behaviour, biting my ankles and lower legs. This has happened before, about two years ago. Strangely, I am the only one that seems to be getting bitten, or maybe my body reacts more to the bites. They itch soooo much!

We have no pets, don't have mice or rats, no visiting animals, can't even remember the 'ast time any of us petted a dog or cat. So where the hell did they come from?! How are they living?!

Any advice for getting rid of these bastards welcome. I'll use Indorex if I need to, although don't like the idea of 3 month old DD coming into contact with so many chemicals...

Also, how to stop the itching in the meantime?!

If you have carpets fleas have laid eggs, usually at the margins. Warm weather = eggs hatch. Those fleas lay eggs and so on.
Bombs from Amazon. Clear any house plants, fish. Set off bombs and leave the house for several hours.
If you have old wooden floors you could have wood fleas, they live in the gaps in the wood flooring. The bombs will kill them too.

Are you sure it's from in the house? You might have been bitten if you've stood outside on grass?

Or, have you recently brought a new piece of furniture/carpet into your home?

The good thing is- if it is fleas, and there's nothing for them to live off, they will die off (just give it a couple of months... 😣)

Valour · 30/05/2023 08:25

Thank you! Will they die off anyway seeing as we don't have a pet?

And to stop itching - germolene is your friend

Zarataralara · 30/05/2023 08:26

You can take an otc anti histamine or use old fashioned calamine lotion for the itching.
I know the bombs are pretty toxic but it’s the only way I know to definitely kill them off for good.

Use Indorex and it'll finish them off. Antishan cream is what you need to stop the itching. They're probably in your carpets from previous house owners.

Unfortunately not - you are the pet now… We had this for a few years in the summer due to a neighbours dog. The fleas lived in the communal area and I unknowingly brought them into our flat on my legs. They never bit my husband but went to town on me. The only thing that worked was being militant about checking feet/legs/shoes as soon as we got home and dousing the flat/ sofa/carpet etc with Indorex. Had to do this for 3 years until the dog died (although it was never as bad as the first year as we sprayed at the first sign of a flea and the militant checking of legs caught most of them).

Indorex will sort it out. You can’t kill the eggs so you have to wait till they hatch and then kill them. Vacuum, spray and regularly vacuum will soon have you sorted,

LacewingOrpington · 30/05/2023 08:49

Ps the vacuuming is to “wake up” the eggs and get them to hatch.

Valour · 30/05/2023 09:28

Thank you everyone! The bites are turning into hives so I'll sort them out first and then get the Indorex out.
