Sani- is it worth the cost?

We have a 3 yo but we're looking ahead to when they are 4/5. Love the idea of the place, but.... Is it worth the astronomic price?

I went in mid-October and I had a very reasonable price quoted plus any extra expenses (drinks/food in the village were 30% off). Not sure what the rates are in the high season but Sani is amazing.

varsitychic · 29/05/2023 15:35

Ok, so it's worth the money

It depends on what you want from a holiday, only worth it if you are going to use what they offer and for you it's affordable. I'd rather 3 holidays rather than one super expensive myself (in Europe, I am paying lots for a dream trip to Africa)

If you avoid the six to ten week summer school holiday period it’s not too bad, could you squeeze in a holiday before your DC starts school?

Madamecastafiore · 29/05/2023 16:12

Before school when pit of peak holiday season and prices are lower, yes. In school holiday's definitely not. It's not as good as it once was

I couldn't get past the name Sani! Reminds me of sanitary pads, why did marketing not think of this and name change!? 😂😂
We went to Ikos in Greece which was excellent and truly all inclusive. Kids could and did order room service any time of night and mini fridge was fully replaced every day for free no matter how much you drank (put in your suitcase! 😜) Highly recommend x Smile

Snoopsnoggysnog · 29/05/2023 16:55

I found Sani boring and a bit Truman Show. Loved Ikos

Peridot1 · 29/05/2023 17:01

Aren’t Ikos and Sani part of the same group now?

I think Sani was originally owned by one company but an equity fund bought in a few years ago and I think they are also Ikos.

@WorkHardPlayHard1 - I’m sure the Greek marketing team back in the 80s or whenever Sani first opened didn’t think at in the future some English speaker would automatically think sanitary towels rather than automatically thinking it’s a Greek resort so may have a Greek name. And I’m not sure bragging you put stuff in your suitcase is all that good either.

I don't think it's worth the peak rates in school holidays. Before DC were school age it was amazing. We went in May & Sept/Oct. Weather in May was good but the pools aren't heated and it was chilly. In Sept/Oct the weather was cooler but the sea was like a warm bath & pools a little warmer than May. And both those time periods prices were much lower. Still expensive but worth it. Some of the restaurants round the marina are excellent. If you can get a dining package you definitely should, good value. For childcare you can't beat it, the kids club is great for little ones. And they have staff at breakfast in the kid's play table area so you can finish your coffee in peace while this kids are supervised. We also saw a couple of celebs both times we went, footballers and a member of a girlband if that helps with the kind of place it is.

Ooh beefin over Ikos? How middle class.

If I've pre-paid I can put the miniatures in my suitcase for later if I like!

Do you own the company? You sound pretty sore over a bad name choice, local not global. It should have been globally thought of as it's a hotel company is it not?

Peridot1 · 02/06/2023 18:54

No I don’t own the company. Sadly. But I have been going to Sani for about 20 years on and off and I suppose I feel connected to it through familiarity. I went on my own for a week a few months after my father died and the staff looked after me so well.

The resort is named after the area. Two brothers came across the bay from the sea back in the 70s I think. They bought the land and developed it into what is now Sani Resort. It has hugely changed since we started going. We lived in Bulgaria and used to drive down for a weekend. I think it’s bit over developed now in some ways but I like that you can see where the money goes. Every time we have been you see the results of the investment. A lot of the staff have been there for years.

Maybe Ikos is more of an AI resort where you feel you own what is in the mini bar but I’ve never felt that at Sani. The mini bar contents are quite expensive!

InceyWinceySpidy · 02/06/2023 18:59

I went about 10yrs ago and it was superb.

The only dampener was the hotel bit had just opened and was packed with nouveau riche Russians, who were the rudest people I have ever encountered. Borderline aggressive. We actually stayed away from the hotel as it was such an unpleasant atmosphere.

However, the rest of it, kids club, dining, accommodation, pools, marina... wonderful.

mumofboys8787 · 03/06/2023 04:29

Not worth it IMO. Spend a little more and go to Ikos

BirdIsland · 03/06/2023 07:12

Sani definitely used to be more expensive than Ikos, but as PPs have said, if you go out or school holidays it's good value. We did a week in October for two adults and a toddler for less than £3k all in. I did find it a bit boring though, there's nothing really nearby apart from the wetlands (which are nice) and some of the activities got booked up even though it was low season.

Sorry to ask, but what’s the plumbing arrangement at Sani? We haven’t been to Greece for a very long time due to fear of ‘the bin’…😬
