How well did fasting work for you?

Did you notice any big changes quickly ? What is you're regime and are you watching carbs?

Monday - easy
Tuesday - anxiety set in around 6pm
Wednesday - euphoric
Thursday - didn’t notice it
Friday - at evening supper even simple food tasted amazing

Mamiamamia · 29/05/2023 12:16

Works amazing for me - loosing 1-1.5kg a week. Am doing OMAD usually around 2pm trying to keep calories between 1200-1400. Have cut bread but still have some carbs (e.g an English muffin with eggs Benedict, noodles with honey and soy chicken).

Plump82 · 29/05/2023 12:20

At one point I had lost 3 stone. I've unfortunately put about a stone back on. You really need to be in the right frame of mind for it but if definitely does work. Unfortunately for me if needs to be a life style change ie I never ever stray from it and I just don't have the willpower for that! But once I know I'm in the right frame mind I know the lbs will drop off.

mimiasovitch · 29/05/2023 12:22

It worked like an absolute dream for me. I found it very easy with the help of sparkling water and black coffee to get through, and went quickly from 16/8 to 19/5. I lost 3 stone and have kept most of it off, but I have done creeping back on with the onset of perimenopause, mainly as I've reverted to post work snacking a bit. Am in a better place now so hopefully I'll be back where I'd like to be. I can't eat before 1,00 anymore, and 3 big meals a day would now be impossible for me.

kippymcquick · 29/05/2023 12:44

That's great to know. Thanks all so much. I have dabbled before but never really got stuck into it enough to see results. I currently have a good 3 stone to lose and I'm really desperate to get there for my 40th later in the year.

I'm drinking lots of sparking water and black coffee and I'm definitely trying to do no less than 18/6 but I will try to do omad once I'm more in the way of it again.

Should I see results quite quickly if I'm strict with it?

Will peppermint tea break my fast? I'm finding black coffee drinkable but my gosh... the breath 🤢

I do 16/8 - anything more than that just wouldn’t be sustainable for me. I still eat carbs but it seems to have kept my weight stable which is what I wanted.

bluemoonswoon · 29/05/2023 12:51

I found it really difficult but lazy keto suits me perfectly and I've lost nearly 2 stone since Christmas.

SallyWD · 29/05/2023 12:51

I yoyo dieted from aged 14 to 40 then I discovered 16/8. I'm now 48 and there's no looking back! I lost weight and have kept it off (I don't need to lose any more now). I found the first 2 or 3 weeks tough then it became so easy! I eat brunch, then a couple of snacks mid-afternoon, then an early dinner. I'm not hungry. I don't count calories or reduce carbs or fat. I just eat what I want. I have to say I do prefer good, home cooked, nutritious meals so it's not like I'm eating Macdonalds and donuts all day long. However, I do have plenty of treats and just eat what I want within that window.
It's not only about weight for me. I feel so good on it that I'll do it for life. Sometimes I stop doing it temporarily (e.g. if I'm staying with people) and I just don't feel as good.

I am inspired to try this!

No fruit and herbal tea is fine.

Using mint mouthwash frequently helps with the bad breath and any food cravings.

Livedandlearned · 29/05/2023 12:59

I started 16:8 in Jan 2021 and never looked back, I've lost 6kg and am at a point where I want to stay.

Natsku · 29/05/2023 13:08

It worked well for me, lost around 11kg (which was my aim) but I also cut out sweets and most alcohol (once in a blue moon treat). Then had a lot of breaks from fasting and put 5kg back on so now doing it properly again and cutting back on sweets and alcohol but not cutting out altogether.

The fasting itself I find really easy, I don't get hungry before midday now at all, and usually not until 1 or 2 so usually fast from 7 until 1 but will had to adjust timings in the autumn when I'll have a set lunchtime at 12.

MrsJBaptiste · 29/05/2023 13:09

I do 16:8 and eat between 12-8pm and stick to 1500 calories within that window.
I go to the gym 4 x week which allows me to lapse and have processo at the weekend.
I'm 5ft 9 and weight 10st 10 - aiming for 10st 7 by July 🫰

I find it quite easy to stick to although my stomach growls all morning and I'm hungry when I go to bed. I can live with that though!

Midnightpony · 29/05/2023 13:20

Worked really well for me. I didn't have a lot to lose but hadn't managed to drop weight post DC2.
It took from July to Dec to lose 6.5 kg. I really only skipped breakfast and stopped eating in the evenings. I tried to avoid bread so would have a coffee with coconut milk at 11ish and maybe an omelette with rice (not bread) for lunch. And I wasn't v strict about it. (I am also breastfeeding so that helps burn calories). It's the easiest way I have found as a lazy person to lose weight

Phlegmatic · 29/05/2023 13:41

@Chatillon was your post referring to restricted window for eating / OMAD or full on water fasting?

Dontlookow · 29/05/2023 14:02

Loving all the positives. Inspiring. I am also currently thinking what I need to do at the moment.

However it’s finding something LONG TERM that counts. Having a long term plan going forward, even if it evolves.

I’ve lost weight with different methods including intermittent fasting, but eventually put it back on, 6 months, one year, two years later.

Habits are hard to break in my experience, especially when other areas of life competing for attention.

peanutbutter00 · 29/05/2023 14:05

Sorry to add a negative but I couldn't get it to work for me. I found the shaking and light headedness from not eating regularly never went away. I tried it for around 3 weeks but just felt too unwell every day to continue

Dontlookow · 29/05/2023 14:12

@peanutbutter00 There have been research questions raised about fasting’s suitability for women. Something to do with women’s hormones - so it could actually be a negative thing for women.

Nothing but water. Should not be tried by everybody of course.

Well I've been doing it for 8 years and it's great for me. I have annual blood tests (post cancer) and my bloods have been perfect since doing 16/8

IrishMamaMia · 29/05/2023 18:22

Had some success wth it last year, normal 5:2 but unfortunately found it very tricky to manage when om holidays or when my routine changed, ie going out or to a party on a fast day. I also felt tired and cranky rather than hungry. When I stopped I put the weight I lost back on and then some.
I'd be open to trying it again but it didn't work currently for my busy lifestyle.

Phlegmatic · 29/05/2023 18:36

@Chatillon thank you. I am planning the same starting Friday evening. I have a very rare week to myself, retired, in my 50s (periods stopped 3 months ago) and find OMAD pretty easy.
