Hi everyone

I'm hoping someone can help. I've just been diagnosed with this https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/polymorphic-light-eruption/

Can anyone recommend me a suncream please that I can use to help stop or slow it down. I can't imagine being in long sleeves all summer and it's on the back of my hands 😭

Thanks

Polymorphic light eruption

Polymorphic light eruption is a fairly common skin rash triggered by exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light. It lasts for up to 2 weeks, healing without scarring.

like a lot of redheads i have super sensitive skin and sun cream usually reacts badly with my skin this year i tried Grumm factor 50 face sun cream as ordinary sun cream on my arms, it didnt itch me to death like i normally get, it has no perfume or irritants in it, yes its over £12 but i found it really good first year i didnt get prickly heat in the canaries

For years I thought the minor(ish) rash I got on holiday was down to too much sun exposure and was prickly heat. I spent a fortune of specialist sun creams and had no clue about PLE, how wrong was I !! I'm just back from the worst holiday ever to Tenerife where I spent 3 days in the shade. My skin erupted and blistered from my neck down to my toes. My hands and feet are swollen and in pieces and the pain was so bad last night that I went to A & E to see the out of hours Doctor. He suspects that I have Polymorphic light eruption and has prescribed steroids and strong antihistamines. I've now got to wait for a referral to Dermatology. I'm feeling really sad and afraid that this condition will really damper my love of travel. I'm 59 and have never experienced such a severe reaction. Can anyone share some information on how they cope with their symptoms. I'm off to Croatia and Italy in April and am already feeling anxious about going through this again. Thanks in advance.
