Nursery interview

Hey,

I have a nursery interview on Tuesday, I haven't worked in nursery for over 10 years, can someone tell me what questions I may get asked?

My knowledge of EYFS is rather out of date now, will this go against me?

willing to do the job, for the money
Warm body
preferably clear DBS
without tats on your face

youd get a job around here, they're desperate

Yep same here. The very fact you've applied and turned up to the interview would be all that was required for them to hire you.

They will ask you about the 7 areas and the 5 prime areas.
A lot of questions about safeguarding and who would you report to.
Have a look at interview questions on Google. Also have a look at some eyfs YouTube videos.

Yep, I agree with this. There are 5 nursery companies in our town (some of them have more than one premises), I’ve seen a job advert for all 5 of them in the past fortnight. It seems very few people want to work in childcare at the moment, so I’d think if you want the job and pass the recruitment checks, you are in!

Thank you all, I mean I know the industry is crying out for staff so we shall see tomorrow. It's changed so much since I left nursery and feel a little out of touch, but I'm willing to learn again.

The main thing to brush up on is safeguarding. This is a non-negotiable so make sure you understand that.
Otherwise, friendly, pleasant and willing will get you hired no problem.

I would also add to be smiley and friendly. If they ask you to stay for a bit during the session just make sure you completely engage with the children. Good luck!

I had a nursery interview not long ago, as PPs say they were clearly desperate for staff but having said that, the interview was quite full on! Definitely safeguarding questions, also how would you deal with two children fighting over a toy, where do you see yourself in 5 years time, what would you do if a parent asked you to give their child Calpol, all sorts of questions!
Regarding the EYFS I said my knowledge wasn't up to date (worked in Early Years around 5 years ago) and I would need some training which they were fine with. Same with Safeguarding as I had been out of settings for around 2 years, also fine as I was able to give the basics in my answers.
Don't be afraid to say while you have a passion for working with children you will need some support getting back into Early Years. I'm sure they will bite your arm off! Good luck

Thanks, I know some bits on safeguarding like reporting to DSL etc
