Would you be concerned for the baby?

Would you be concerned/would you think it would constitute neglect if a mum you knew had the TV on in the background all day (baby channel) for her one year old baby? Even when doing other things

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Remotecontrolatmyside · 28/05/2023 15:56

It's not ideal but it's definitely not neglect. You would be amazed how far things need to go to be considered neglect.

SouthLondonMum22 · 28/05/2023 15:56

No. It's also not even close to neglect.

Emmamoo89 · 28/05/2023 15:56

Nope

Suprima · 28/05/2023 15:57

It’s not how I would parent, but I wouldn’t consider it neglect.

fwiw- I put on baby tv in my child’s minority language for 20-30 minutes a day now she is old enough to smile and enjoy the characters. She is a similar age to yours. I’m not anti tv. But I think it demonstrates a lack of creativity and creates bad habits to have it on in the background ALL DAY

babies find any shit interesting. mine is sitting in the laundry basket flapping odd socks around and chewing the side. She’s having a whale of a time. I don’t need baby tv on all day.

woofrood · 28/05/2023 15:57

Okay, thank you all x

I've reported this as being goady AF - I assume it's trying to make mums feel bad. But for the record, just in case there's any chance whatsoever it's genuine, absolutely and fundamentally not. Please try and apply some logic and reason.

Missingmyusername · 28/05/2023 15:58

If anything I’d say she may be making a rock for her own back as the baby will need it to sleep? But I don’t know.

It’s not great having a child in front of a tv all day.

Yummymummy2020 · 28/05/2023 15:58

This has to be a joke post😂 or else perhaps a misunderstanding of what neglect actually entails 😂😂😂

woofrood · 28/05/2023 16:03

For clarification, I am the mum, but was told that any TV before baby is 2 is detrimental to their development and that too much of it could lead to developmental delays hence be a form of developmental neglect. I don't use it in place for interaction, but I do have it in the background, sometimes for an hour while I get things done but admittedly sometimes I leave it in the background for the whole afternoon. I felt terrible as my son isn't meeting a few of the milestones he should have met by now

These threads are beyond infuriating. Just ask the question properly.

Give it a rest. I'd normally agree with you, but the OP is clearly very anxious.

No OP, you have not done anything damaging to your baby.

Who said this to you?

Larner · 28/05/2023 16:10

No, it's not neglect.

If your baby has developmental delay, it won't be caused by being in the same room as a telly.

Who has told you that your baby may be showing signs of delay? If it's a healthcare professional, what's their plan? Monitor? Consider a referral? Because if they are a HCP and they consider your baby may have developmental delay they need to be doing more than telling you to switch off your TV. And if they're not a hcp you can ignore them.

YouJustDoYou · 28/05/2023 16:11

Oh NOES!!!!! WOn't somebody PLEASE think of the CHILDREN!!!!!!

SparkyBlue · 28/05/2023 16:11

Absolutely not neglect. I always have tv on in the background while I potter about. It's just a habit
