She's chirruping

Where was it?
If its a fledgling they can't fly and will stay on the ground for a few days while the parents feed it

Sux2buthen · 28/05/2023 11:35

It was under a seesaw and it's very big

Keep it in a dark box (well ventilated!) and Google wildlife rescues near you - fingers crossed!

dementedpixie · 28/05/2023 11:37

If it can move about and isn't visibly injured then I'd put it back where you found it.

dementedpixie · 28/05/2023 11:38

And then keep an eye on it

Theunamedcat · 28/05/2023 11:38

Doesn't look like a fledgling have you offered water?

Honeysuckle16 · 28/05/2023 11:42

Animal rescues advise that fledglings should be put back where they were as long as it’s safe. Offer water. The parents will continue to feed it.

CC4712 · 28/05/2023 11:42

It looks like a black bird fledging. They leave the nest before they can fly very well and will hop about on the ground for a few days until they start flying short distances. I have 2 that have been in the garden a few weeks and their dad still feeds them.

Can it stand up? It might have flown into something and got dazed. Are there any bird rescues in your area? Put a post on nextdoor.com in your area to ask if anyone can advise on local bird rescues.

Hairfriar · 28/05/2023 11:43

Dehydrated? Hurt? Fledgling? Call a wildlife centre for some advice.
Fledglings will spend a bit of time on the ground learning to hunt for ground bugs before they fly. Parents will be around though. Is it safe to put it back?
It’s been very warm with no rain in lots of the country, so dehydration could be possible? Offer a bit of water? Or find a couple of worms if your stomach can handle it. If it’s hurt it needs a wildlife rescue - vets don’t usually treat wildlife, they’ll euthanise.

TheoreticalRefusal · 28/05/2023 11:47

Pop it on a box on to of a an old towel, darkness is good for them when they're in shock. Keep her somewhere quiet and safe.

It still looks like a fledgling to be honest, the size of the beak suggests that?

Go on Facebook and ask a local wildlife group for help. If you're anywhere in NI, I'll come and lift it.

ItWillWash · 28/05/2023 11:47

If you don't like/have access to worms dried meal worms from the petshop/supermarket work just as well. My dad rehabs wild birds and this is what he feeds when he runs out of live worms (which the grandkids scavange from my garden for him)

Feed them with tweezers. You can also buy wild bird food if it can eat independently.

Leave it it in a dark (but not pitch black - it won't eat/drink if it is too dark) box in a quiet space in your house for a few hours. Try releasing it after a few hours. If it cannot fly you will need to find someone who looks after wild birds local to you. Facebook is great for this.

Put it back where you found it if it’s not hurt. Its parents will look after it.

SkiFan · 28/05/2023 11:50

That's a blackbird fledgling. Put it back where you found it, offer it water.
They live on the ground for a few days until they can fly. Parents will be looking for it!

Sux2buthen · 28/05/2023 11:52

Again, it's fully grown and not able to move properly. It's brown and quite big, the picture might be deceptive. I've given her (she's a she in my head) water, she's in a cool ventilated and dark box. This area is a pain for neighbours crappy cats going in my garden so I would feel awful putting her back.
I have a farmer type coming to help

She said at first glance the leg appears to be broken. She's scooped her up and that's all the information we have as the waiting room was very busy and full of birds apparently.
I'm wishing her well!
