How often do you go on holiday as a family?

We go once a year with grown up dc and gdc. Also take youngest abroad in the summer whilst she's still at uni. We go to center parcs every year and I take just dc for a spa weekend. Been a few times in the past with dps, dsis and family, dsil and family.

WorriedMillie · 28/05/2023 06:49

incl short breaks/weekends away, we have/had 6-7 this year. Mostly low budget (premier inn!). This includes a week away in the summer (Uk). This is fairly typical for us. We haven’t been abroad since 2019, as decided to explore the UK while DD is young (plus wider family health issues means we’re better closer to home)
We’re a family of 3, so it’s easier and cheaper than taking away a larger family. I love to have a weekend away to look forward to, they have kept me going through some incredibly difficult times over the past year!

IAgreeWithHim · 28/05/2023 06:50

Hmmm...

Well- I go on holiday with the Dcs only about twice a year. DH is a homebod and has to be dragged kicking and screaming so i just go without him as i and the children are not going to miss out.

Holidays with DH as well- a long weekend last October and nothing since 2019 before that.

Holiday with extended family- once in 2019 (the one DH came to as well) and once last term break as we had GPs visit us from abroad and they and DCs and I all went away for 4 days to the Channel Islands.

I do a UK city break with the DCs every year and an abroad trip with the DCs every year. This year in summer though we are visiting DH's family who are a 4 hour flight away so we will all go together. I doubt I will get DH away again after that any time soon.

WinchSparkle80 · 28/05/2023 06:56

Only ever with my household. 1-2 a year all of us. DH and I might have a weekend away also once a year.

blutterfly · 28/05/2023 07:04

Just our household, twice a year (usually uk break at haven or similar and a week in Europe). Sometimes PIL join us for one of them.

DH and I don’t have enough annual leave to go away together more than that, we spread our leave to try to cover as many school holidays/inset days as possible.

GreenMarigold · 28/05/2023 07:04

We go away for 4-5 days once a year, normally in the UK.

Once every 2-3 years we go abroad, I can’t justify flying more regularly than that.

whiteroseredrose · 28/05/2023 07:23

For many years we went to visit PIL in Spain once a year then camped 2-3 times.

When DC got older we did a long weekend eg in Rome or Florence instead of camping but still went to Spain.

So on average 2 trips a year, one big, one small.

Leftlegwest · 28/05/2023 07:44

Last year it was once. This year we were away in Feb and aiming to go away last week of August. We might try and squeeze in a few days in October half term too

DinosApple · 28/05/2023 07:55

Pre Covid about three times a year. Always UK. One week camping, one week in a cottage and a weekend trip to London.
Finances are more stretched since then (not all due to Covid tbf). So atm usually just once.

This year it's 3 weeks camping which will make us appreciate our beds when we get home! But abroad next year for DH's big birthday.

ThreeRingCircus · 28/05/2023 08:03

We normally go on holiday twice a year and usually it's a caravan somewhere in the UK. Every two or three years we do a foreign holiday and those years we just go on holiday the once due to budgets.

My parents live about 4 hours drive away from us and we go and stay with them a couple of weekends a year. I don't class that as a holiday (it's definitely not relaxing) although I suppose DDs would.

CLEO42 · 28/05/2023 08:05

The four of us:
Main holiday once a year 2-3 weeks abroad
2 school holiday UK holidays - this year Feb (B&B) and May (Cottage)
1 weekend away with friends and their kid for New Year.

Oldest DC is 15 so I don't imagine we've got many more years like this

AssertiveGertrude · 28/05/2023 08:05

Twice (one at home one abroad) just the four of us and some camping or whatever too during the year
never go away with extended family as prefer to just switch off and go ourselves which wouldn’t happen if we all went

illiterato · 28/05/2023 08:06

At the moment every school holiday ( so 6x) but that’s mainly due to DH working overseas and it’s usually easier to meet him somewhere else. He’s coming back to uk in the summer so we’ll cut down for sure then. We live in a really lovely part of the uk where people come on holiday and I’m looking forward to spending more time here if I’m honest.

Wowwellokthen · 28/05/2023 08:10

Once a year abroad with my kids but this summer will probably be the last one as just can't afford it.

PinkPlantCase · 28/05/2023 08:12

We tend to have a weeks holiday with DHs extended family. Usually in the U.K. We don’t pay for any accommodation for this one though, DH’s parents kindly cover that for everyone.

A week or 10 days with our immediate family. Might be abroad, depends on the year.

Maybe 2 or 3 shorter breaks off 1 or 2 nights through the year. One might be abroad. They usually involve seeing family or friends. So they very a lot in how much they cost, some are almost free others are a few 100s on flights.

So 5 trips away max.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 28/05/2023 08:16

We can't get away often or for long as dh is a farmer and I own a business. We have two UK holidays a year and also usually get one or two city breaks in a year. I just wish when we did go away that people back home would leave us alone, lots of little "sorry to bother you, but" calls.

shivawn · 28/05/2023 08:49

3 holidays abroad, these used to be all big long haul trips but since having our child we only manage one long haul and the other 2 in Europe.

We don't really travel much at home (live in Ireland), maybe just a few days in Center Parcs and nights away in hotels for weddings. We have a campervan so we do a good few weekends away in that during summers but it's only a 3 seater and we'll be a family of 4 soon so will have to sell it.

I suspect we'll only go away once or twice a year once the new baby comes, at least for the next 3 or 4 years.

Snugglemonkey · 28/05/2023 09:02

I am Irish but live in Scotland, so we spend a chunk of our time over there. About 5/6 weeks a year, though we often need to do some work while there. We have a few mini breaks or weekends away in Scotland a year, 1 or 2 weekends in hotels and 2 or 3 camping. We camp for a week in the summer here. We have a 4 night trip to London every year, see a show and do the museums etc. We
go abroad for one week or 10 days. We are more about experiences than stuff and prioritise getting away.

Fluffycarrotss · 28/05/2023 12:14

I meant household family.

OP posts:
fireflyloo · 28/05/2023 12:27

As a household we go away 6 times per year, 4 abroad and 2 in our country. Of those times about half are also with other people, extended family and friends.

EllaPaella · 28/05/2023 13:03

Two holidays a year, one in summer and one skiing. But we go away for the odd weekend camping from time to time or a weekend city break once or twice a year as well.

mondaytosunday · 28/05/2023 13:03

Once a year. My kids are teens they have jobs/schoolwork. We are going away at Christmas this year. Last year we went on a mini cruise. Before covid when they were younger maybe twice a year.

JorisBonson · 28/05/2023 13:05

DH and I like to have a "sitting down" resort holiday every year, along with 4/5 city breaks or weekends away.

Lioney · 28/05/2023 13:27

My older dc no longer live at home.

With dc that still live its been 2 years

Fluffycarrotss · 28/05/2023 19:58

No need to go abroad with the weather we are having.
