Has anyone gone from Apple to Samsung?

If you have, do you regret it - this is for my mobile phone.

I’ve been Apple for years. Prior to that blackberry. I’d love a blackberry again but now looking at Samsung.

I did and lasted meds then a week. However my son has a Samsung and the camera blows the iPhone out of the water.

it’s the only thing which would tempt me again but I’m pretty sure I’d hate everything else

AnxiousShep · 27/05/2023 22:23

I use an iPad every day but always had android for my phone and wouldn’t change.
DH has always been an apple fan. He’s just changed to Google pixel and seems very happy with it.

PocketfulOfMiracles · 27/05/2023 22:23

Yep a few years ago.
absolutely hated it and was back with Apple in a few months.

RumNotRun · 27/05/2023 22:35

@Jewel1968 I loved my Windows phones! I had a couple of Nokia Lumias, they were so good except for the lack of apps. The camera on the 1020 was amazing.

I prefer Android to Apple but I guess it's what you're used to. My sister hates Microsoft and Android stuff and has an iPad and iPhone. We're both adamant that our preferred OS is the easiest to use, most intuitive, etc.

Genuine question because I've never had an apple phone. What is the big advantage of apple over anything else? I've had a Google phone for years now (new one a couple of months ago) and I can't imagine having anything else. The camera is always the deal-breaker for me but I'd love to know if I'm missing something and apple phones can do something amazing that others can't? As I said, genuine question as I've never had an iPhone anyway.

I have & will never go back, I've had 4 Samsung Phones including the one I got this week, an S23 Ultra, it's a 512GB memory & the battery life is excellent, I can use it 12 hours none stop & still be on 45% battery.

Hiddenmnetter · 28/05/2023 05:03

I did, but eventually went back to apple cause DW was still apple and so it was easier (family sharing/photos/etc etc).

In my experience Android phones are generally more customisable but require a great deal more work. Apple is all nice and locked down: if you want to be a “Power user” then I’d say android all the way, but if you just want a phone that works, I’d go apple. I haven’t used android for about 2 years now though, so maybe it’s changed (Google are great at software), and the lifecycle issues in apple phones are SUPER annoying, but overall unless being able to directly manage your phone with a command prompt is something that appeals to you, I’d recommend apple. If you haven’t switched before the shock of a new phone system that doesn’t work the way you are uses to sucks.

Thanks all. I was chatting to a friend who has an older Samsung lying around. She’s going to let me try thst before I decide. She has the new Samsung flip phone which looks really smart.

Apple to an Android (Google pixel) much prefer it and it's price!

GetDownkeith · 29/05/2023 07:12

I did back in January. I still pine for an iPhone a little but I don't think I'll go back now.
Battery life and camera are the biggest things for me.
It did take some getting used to and some things do feel clunkier on samsung but I'm mostly used to it now.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 29/05/2023 07:17

I have a Samsung right now. Apple is way better in my opinion, but harder to justify the cost!

MontanaSapphire · 29/05/2023 07:18

I've just changed from Apple to Samsung. It's been 2 months and I still feel I'm getting used to it.

The fingerprint/face recognition is really slow; I'm always getting stuck at checkouts when I'm trying to pay. And even though the memory on this is twice what I had on my old iPhone I'm running out of space because it doesn't do that thing where it offloads all your photos and unused apps. Thanks to the pp who mentioned memory cards- I will look into that.

I love the battery life, and I couldn't afford another iphone so I'm sticking with it but bloody hell it's annoying.

UseOfWeapons · 29/05/2023 07:30

I find Samsung more user-intuitive for me personally. When I bought my iPad, I did toy with the idea of getting an iPhone as well, but stayed with Samsung. I love the seamless ness of the the Apple software, but it’s Android all the way for me, phone-wise. However, if I could afford it, I would buy another iPad, and I love the fact that I have familiarity with both platforms. The camera and sound are much better on Samsung, though.

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 29/05/2023 07:30

I went from apple to Huawei (for the good quality camera) and haven't regretted it. I tried samsung galaxy and hated it, seemed unnecessarily complicated and fiddly.

I loved apple but the shitty battery life was a big problem, always had to carry a power bank.

MangoBiscuit · 29/05/2023 07:34

I would personally say android absolutely is user friendly, far more than iOS, but that's because I'm more used to android and windows operating systems than apple. Comparing the two is almost always featured in any UX development training because it demonstrates some of the principles really well (Jakob’s Law)

I have to use both for work, and both OS are very usabled once you get to grips with them. Apple will sync up with other apple devices and accounts more easily, and possibly feels a tiny bit faster, more powerful. Android offers far more flexibilty with what it will connect to meaning you're not tied in to one brand. I also find the cameras and battery life tend to be better, and I can easily swap chargers, head phones etc, with other devices. If iPhones were cheaper, then I would probably consider them. As it is, I don't want to pay more for a product that isn't the clear leader, especially if it limits my choices elsewhere.

I think trying an android before forking out any money on one is a good idea, but if you are using an older model, just keep in mind that it will probably be running a bit slower than newer models.

Jackienory · 29/05/2023 07:36

I had a Blackberry for years until I had to move but you can still get Blackberry App on Android which I’m looking into.

Klex · 29/05/2023 07:37

Personal phone is Apple, work phone is Samsung/Android.

Hate the Samsung so much I've basically ditched it and use my own phone. I do however tether mine to the Samsung to use company data.

I do a lot of typing on my phone and the Samsung keyboard is horrendous to use in comparison.
