Posting for traffic - would you tell a manager all about the issues in the team?

Sorry posting in chat as the work forum is quiet.

I work in a team of 6. We are a kind of call centre / support service so react and answer to incoming emails and calls.

Our manager is rarely around, travels most of the week so maybe in the office 1/2 days a week.

this leaves the opportunity for one or two of the lazier members of staff to take the piss.
They take ages to reply to enquiries, maybe sending 1/3 or 1/2 of the number that the harder working members do. They wander away from their desks for extended periods or make personal calls which means they don’t take their share of incoming calls either.

They Work from home as much as possible (with the permission of the very easy going manager) which means they output even less on those days.

It’s starting to create bad feeling in the team, the rest of us are resentful at the lack of effort. We did flag this up to the manager previously and they promised to have a word but there’s been no improvement.

We have to submit the numbers of emails that we reply to do their figures will be obviously much lower but there doesn’t appear to be anything being done about it.

I don’t want to flag it again, it seems all I do is complain about this person and I’m sure the manager would wonder whether I have a personal problem with the person. I don’t but just wish they’d do their fair share.

Should I butt out and just concentrate on my own work or bring it up again? He rest of us feel pretty bitter about it.

Can you talk to HR and the manager jointly?

S/he obviously doesn’t care enough to deal with it, but if it’s impacting on the team morale or workload then yes it’s an issue that needs to be dealt with.

Otherwise book an appointment with the manager, lay out the problem and ask them for a plan to deal with it, and book a follow up.
