Do you have a Meaco portable air conditioning unit?

If so are you happy with it ?
My living room is already at 27 degrees and last year was unbearable. I’ve got normal uk outward opening casement windows and wonder if anyone has installed the window kit that’s supposed to be for all windows expect sash and sliding doors?

it’s so expensive (not far off £400 for the 10000 bu one I’d need for my open plan flat. I don’t want to make a mistake and end up with a bulky, difficult to set up unit, so any opinions really appreciated. I’ve got a meaco fan which is great but once the temp really shoots up, it’s not enough. TIA

They're very good, but see if you can install a 'proper' wall-mounted unit.
I appreciate this might not be possible in a flat, but it's worth considering first - we paid just over £1,000 for one fitted, but it's absolutely game-changing.
No pipes, no faff and whisper quiet.

deathbyfluffy. I rent from a HA so would have to get permission to install a wall unit one. And do more saving up so I don’t think I’d be able to afford it this summer. I wear hearing aids but generally not at home so I don’t think noise would be a huge problem. Do you know if the window kits are easy to install on the portable units? Thanks

I have one and used it on a few of the hottest days last year - also in a rented flat. Only used it for the main room and kept the door shut to the rest of the flat. It was pretty noisy but effective.

I have that type of window too and the fabric window kit inevitably leaves some gaps, so probably less efficient than the one for sliding windows and looks a bit untidy, but easy enough to use.

Sleepytraveller. Thanks that's really good to know. Is it the 10,000 you have?

Mine's the "Meaco Cool 9000R Air Conditioner"

So you have a wall mounted unit with a fan outside?

If so are the unit and the fan outside quite near to one another?

The reason I ask is I want a unit but the best location for the exterior fan would be quite far away.

At the moment we have an air cooler. We add iced water to the water container and we get "cooled air" which is ok but noisy and in that terrible heatwave last year of 40 plus it didn't help too much.
