School pick up twat

Revoltingrhyme · 25/05/2023 22:11

We’re all anonymous here so we can secretly rage at the one person who drives us insane at school pick up.

Now I’ll start by saying this isn’t an attack on the women, I am a young, high maintenance woman myself- platinum hair, false tan etc but there’s a few groups of similar mums at the school pick up who come in gym sets, hair all done, lovely done filler. Very glam.

But it’s this one dad who sets my teeth on edge. He will cut the queue every day and walk up the path past everyone until he finds one of these mums and tries to flirt with them very blatantly. It’s the strut he does, the specific type of woman he looks for. He’s not even cutting right up to the front, just until he sees one of these mums who are simply trying to pick up their kids. Argh he makes my skin crawl and it never fails to irritate me every day 😂

Anyone else have that one twat at pick up who annoys you?

@NeverDropYourMooncup they were seen as a mc marker around here until Pennies (primark) & another Irish brand Dunnes started making similar ones dryrobes last year & selling for a fraction of the price 🤣 they were accessible to all the great unwashed & their kids (mine had the dunnes ones for the beach) but even us plebs drew the line at wearing them to the school gates..

So none of the mums at your school have highlighted hair? I have platinum blonde hair myself but I'm not remotely glam, just a pretty run of the mill mum that happens to have blonde hair. I can't imagine a school (or any everyday situation) where that would stick out like a sore thumb.

Died platinum hair stands out like a sore thumb, wherever you are. Ordinary highlights don't. As kids we used to make fun of middle aged mums with this hair and called them pee lady, not to their face, mind 👩. As a grown up I kind like the escort platinum hair style, having grown bored of the Boden, toast look etc. If you like it, go for it.

Dymaxion · 26/05/2023 07:52

I love the look of dryrobes, they look warm and er dry, due to my size and shape,if I wore one I would just look like I had had an unfortunate incident with a festival tent.

Cherryblossoms85 · 26/05/2023 07:57

Lol at my school making an effort would ostracise you! I try to look as drab as possible.

We are in Liverpool, so it’s very much in the culture to be so glam all the time 😂

I'm in Liverpool and there were loads of mums like this at my kids primary school. Then there was me...

The school doesn't begin with the letter 'O' and on a road beginning with 'G', is it?

summerfinn · 26/05/2023 08:02

HerMammy · 25/05/2023 23:36

@Inkypot
Did you not know on MN no decent mother has coloured hair and they dress like Kate Middleton, getting tan or nails is just trashy, any type of self care is common.

Yes 😂🙈 remember my infamous post. I was completely slated for being a selfish high maintenance mother for looking after myself. They only thing acceptable on mums net is the haggard martyrs that put themselves lady and haven't bought a single new item of clothing since Ireland last won the Eurovision 😂😂

Then it's not really a surprise when men there place importance on it

Dry robes are fuckin ugly. Jesus wept

I bet this is a fake question by someone who wants to make Liverpool look bad. Perhaps OP comes from Manchester?

Lovemylittlebear · 26/05/2023 08:15

Oh gosh I need to burn my dry robe 😂 I bought one to wear for after cold water dips. It is so bloody warm and cosy that I have to admit I’ve worn it on the school run a few times when it’s been tipping it down. I’m too fat for my old coat atm and thought I could get away with it but I’ve learned the error of my ways after reading this thread 😂 thank goodness it’s summer and I won’t need a coat for a while x

Tlolljs · 26/05/2023 08:16

Blimey times have changed since I last did a school run. Don’t think it was even called a school run.
Just tell creepy dad to get to back of the queue. Wear what you want.

PumpkinSpiceLattePlease · 26/05/2023 08:21

I live in a crap area so the playground is filled with Pretty Little Thing tracksuits, Hoodrich hoodies, fake crocs, and those fake Balenciaga sock/boot things. There's one Boden mummy and she does stick out like a sore thumb. I'm the harem pants and Jesus creeper mum so everyone avoids me too.

HerMammy · 26/05/2023 08:22

@summerfinn
It seems to be a badge of pride to say oh I can't even brush my hair I'm soooo busy being a mum, comments like this Sorry but your description of "glam" is rather grim. Fake tans and platinum hair? No thanks are just nasty and bitchy, why do these glum women think it's ok to drag down someone's appearance? My DD has platinum hair, tan, nails and is an extremely hard working SW, does it lessen her abilities? no it doesn't, would she do better in leggings and tunic, no makeup?
The snide attitudes on here about anyone outside of the MC drab are so insular and snotty.

Zone2NorthLondon · 25/05/2023 22:54

Yes they are. Unless on a beach after a swim, however, most appear to wear them everywhere and think they look cool 😂

The relevance of the OP saying she is platinum and fake tan made me wonder if she was upset he bypassed her. Not everyone thinks platinum and fake tan and fillers for the other women is great. Many men prefer more natural but this chap sounds horrid. Trip him up or ignore him.

Maybe the filler brigade like his attention it makes them feel the filler is worth it or something since he seems a similar type with the Geordie Shore type descriptor? Similar artificial types attract maybe?

Zooeyzebra · 26/05/2023 08:43

Holy smokes, it took me a while to realise that you meant dry robes over regular clothes, not swimmers.

I was trying to work out how so many people were turning up to school pickup in swimsuits with a robe over. I live in Aus and even here (literally a 5 min walk from the sea) nobody is coming to pickup in their swimmers.

imagining bare, cold, blue legs with just a robe over outside the school gates 😂

over clothes is a relief!

sunglassesonthetable · 26/05/2023 08:43

Choosing to wear a hugely expensive big anorak in the school playground somewhere on the outskirts of Bromley because it's how they signal that they're
Not Like The Other Mums and being determined to ignore the fact that it is a big anorak they wouldn't ever consider without the marketing and big price tag is somewhat different.

Meiow. And you KNOW all that stuff about everyone wearing them on school yards?

.Sounds like the basic playground custom of hating on people wearing different clothes to you.

Soubriquet · 26/05/2023 08:45

One of the mums here shows up with her horse every now and then…so her precious dd gets to ride the horse home.

mondaytosunday · 26/05/2023 08:46

We don't have this queuing system, there's a crowd by the gates but being first in doesn't mean you are first to get your kid. They let parents in before the kids get out anyway.
But the ones who annoyed me (I'm way beyond the school gate stage of my kids lives), was the people who would show up an hour before collection to nab a coveted parking spot. I'd drive by and see them all sitting in their cars. Or the ones who thought they were the exception to the rule banning it's use and pull into the very small front parking lot, which led directly to the main front door, which had minimal turning space, therefore risking hitting a child in manoeuvring their 4x4s. In the end the school put a chain across the entrance.

waterlego · 26/05/2023 08:52

I’ve got a Dry Robe which I received as a gift. I very rarely go in the sea despite living right next to it. But I wore the DryRobe for dog walks through the winter. I occasionally wore it when popping to the shops. It is deeply unflattering and I certainly had no notion that I looked ‘cool’. Luckily I am not interested in looking cool or sexually appealing 😂 I do like keeping warm and dry though and the Dry Robe does the trick for that. I felt the cold this winter more than I ever have before and was grateful for my giant ugly coat.

AnneElliott · 26/05/2023 08:56

A horse! Where does she tie it up when going into the playground?

One of the mums at DSs school used to roar up in her 4x4 jump out in her Mini Mouse PJs and throw 3 kids out of the car in the direction of the gates. Just stopped in the middle of the road 2 mins before the bell went!

I’m glad I don’t live in Liverpool… sounds exhausting 😂

Here it’s the Dry Robe crew that send me insane. I doubt they’ve ever been cold water swimming, never mind nipping in for a quickie before the school run.

Dry Robes are middle-class PJs.

Haha - do you live in London by any chance?!

I sold my dry robe (winter swimmer here! Wore it to swim, never wore it to pickup!) because they became such a uniform and also they make very poor towels! They don’t really “dry” you!

But OP - in my child’s class there’s a dad who always cuts to the front of the queue. He doesn’t flirt, he just walks straight to the front. He knows there’s a queue, just doesn’t care because he’s an Important Man doing Important Man Things. My blood boils whenever I see him, but I’m too polite to say anything.

Embrace it purely for the entertainment value @Revoltingrhyme he's making a fool of himself
I wish I was half as glamorous as the women at your school though

Depends where you are. My DS’s school is one of those considered to be (doesn’t necessarily mean it is) just about the best in Liverpool - I don’t see much of this glam at parents’ meetings (GCSE options talks etc) and didn’t used to at primary pick up either.

To be fair, that sounds awesome!
Our school is very boring compared to these. Most of the mums wear the same saltwater sandals in differing colours. Plus the same animal patterned sack dresses as their toddlers.
There’s one mum who wears negligee type PJs, including slippers. But she is usually smoking outside the school gates, and quite scary looking.
