Tips for getting a 4 yo boy to use a “normal” toilet?

Anyone got any genius tips on getting a 4 year old boy to use an adult toilet when we’re out and about? He’s frightened of faking in but I can’t seem to teach him
how to balance himself - I’m wondering if I’m missing something?

He uses a toilet seat at home as we have giant, square shaped toilets that aren’t child friendly at all.

In public loos I’ve been putting him across the toilet or parking his behind on the back of the seat and telling to have his legs straight and wide to balance but he hangs in to me for dear life and physically can’t get himself into this position - I am now pregnant and know I will find lifting him difficult as things progress.

He was holding on to me earlier at the leisure centre, panicked and tried to stand up. Wee went everywhere. Him, me, the floor…

He is also now too big for our portable loo seat!

Never had this issue with others, they’ve always climbed up somehow!

He is ND but toilet training hasn’t been a problem other than he won’t do standing up wees because he doesn’t like the dribbles. I can only assume sitting down, gravity helps get every bit out!

Any advice gladly taken.

To clarify:
He’s frightened of falling in.
And I mean he can’t climb up on to the toilet himself and sit with wide legs because he’ll fall in.

Can you teach him to sit facing the opposite way? The front of the toilet seat is usually narrower so will feel more secure perhaps.

Can’t he stand up?
My 2yo refuses to sit (unless in nursery)

Would one of those folding toilet seats work perhaps?

He needs to stand up (and shake!) Ping pong ball in toilet.

Oh god sorry I missed your last line.

what about teaching him to “tap” or “jiggle” the drips off, or use a square of toilet roll?

@ReluctantFishLady @bettynutkins Those seats are great but he is too big for ours now - it physically creaks and bends significantly; which adds to the fear!

@titchy @Writeandroll he categorically will not stand up! No wild wees or anything. Trust me, I’ve tried all bribery and other strategies as that would make life so much simpler!

@Yarnysaura That would work at home but would involve stripping his pants off in a public loo and neither of us are keen on that!

Have you tried taking a group of similar aged boys for a day in the woods...? Most will pee against a tree IME and he won't want to be the odd one out.

Have you tried the big ones? That look like a potty with no base. They are much sturdier than the one I sent the link for. Asda do them for £3. They are a bit of a pain to take out and about (hence why I've just bought a folding one) but might do the job.

That sort of thing.

Or this specific one below, says it is up to 110lb weight limit/8 years old.
