Hi,

So I'm really hurting today. Went out with a friend for a few drinks last night, but I'm not talking a proper drinking session, I had 3 medium glasses and then dp and I had a tiny glass in the garden when I got back.

Went to bed feeling OK, but then woke up at 3am and urghhhh!!! Dear lord, what on earth?! I've never had a headache like it. Thankfully, it's just started easing after a paracetamol ibuprofen mix, but I still feel utterly awful. Feel like I've drunk two bottles, not a few glasses!

I'm late 30's and whereas this seems like the most unjustified hangover yet, they've definitely been getting worse over the past few years.

Seriously considering going teetotal. Or maybe that's just the monster hangover talking ....

I guess this is a thing?

Yeah, this is MN where competitive non-drinking is a thing and even sniffing a thimble of sherry once a year confines you to the Victorian fainting couch for two days...

It's ok to not want to drink anymore (or drink less). No need to be so high and mighty about it.

And, indeed, there is no need to be so high and mighty about wanting to drink less or, indeed, not at all.

It's fine. Do or do not.

The ridiculous moralistic crap on MN that anything more than half a white wine spritzer on the second Tuesday of a month with a Z in it is completely unacceptable is tiresome.

The thread isn’t really about the amount you drink though it’s about how rough you tend to feel afterwards as you get older.

Yep. Late thirties here and partner and I have practically given up entirely due to horrific hangovers. Turning point was when I woke up with the worst head and the fear after just three drinks. So not worth it imo.

Blimey. Well obviously not since this thread is mostly people who drank with abandon in their 20s only to find they couldn't do that any more because the hangovers were to terrible. Hardly "moralistic".

36 in a few weeks and trialling being tee-total after a really similar story to yours. I‘d only had a few glasses of prosecco and almost as soon as i was home i felt a headache coming on and then hardly slept because i felt queasy too. The next day felt like it just dragged on forever, no energy at all. With all the afterworks events i never realised how shit i felt after them. So
i stopped altogether about 3 months ago. I‘ve noticed only positive things too, i’ve got much more energy, i work out better, go running if i can, i find i eat healthier because often drink-drinks go with the unhealthiest types of snacks. I sleep so easily. And i just love the feeling of waking up feeling good. I can‘t really see myself ever really drinking again. I guess with age comes wisdom 😂😂😂 I even managed a hen-do a few weeks ago completely alcohol-free… 💪🏻

@AffIt

You've really missed the point of this thread. Most of us on here loved a drink (or several) in our younger days - and some of us are absolutely gutted that we now feel like shit next day if we have more than two lagers.

Not a thing here 🤷‍♀️ I'm 47 and can still drink like a fish.

A bottle of wine does give me more of a headache the next day than a bottle or two of prosecco but I always have a couple of ibuprofen before bed which sorts things out.

I also drink 2-3 litres of water a day which definitely helps. I can really tell the difference when I haven't had as much water during the day.
