My friend says that someone turning up late is rude and disrespectful. This was said in the context of a mutual friend who always arrives upto 15 minutes late. Personally, I'm not bothered either way.

Friend also insists on fresh water for a hot drink at home, and a fresh cup,, rather than re-boil the kettle. Again, I'm not bothered

Am I uncouth?

I thought this was going to be a thread about swigging white lightning in a sofa in your driveway. Those examples aren't even in the same postal district as uncouth.

Your friend sounds like she needs to get a life tbh!

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 25/05/2023 00:02

Yeah what she said.

You're no Onslow, tell your mate that.

HeddaGarbled · 25/05/2023 00:07

Well, you think you’re cool and your ‘friend’ is uptight, and think it’s fine to ridicule her on social media. You could call that uncouth, but there’s other possible words.

Rainbowsandfairies · 25/05/2023 00:08

No , you're definitely not uncouth! Not in the slightest x

I don’t see any ridicule?

Are you the friend?

Yes this is rude. Your other example is not.

Not caring is not what 'uncouth' means.

Come on, don’t be naive.

The OP doesn’t really think she’s ‘uncouth’. This is an absolute classic stealth boast combined with a moan about a mate she’s currently pissed off with. She will absolutely love it if you all give the friend a good kicking. Imagine how that friend will feel if she ever saw the thread.

Nobody gets to decide for you. But you get to choose whether to accept people's labels for you, or walk away. Time to grow up, rather than assuming that there's an over-arching authority.

Lol!

Why do people never refer to things as being "couth"?

coxesorangepippin · 25/05/2023 02:02

She sounds deranged

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/05/2023 02:04

Turning up late to everything is telling the other people that your time is more important than theirs. So yes, it's rude.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 25/05/2023 02:22

Being constantly late is definitely rude.
