Cows milk

Hello. I see lots of posts on here about cmpa so sorry if this is a repeat but my head is a big fuzzy about it all.

My Dc is 7 months and we have started weaning. Long story short doctors suspect a cows milk allergy or intolerance. Dc is currently EBF and I intend to continue EBF until a year when I understand she can then go onto cows milk and me return to work.

I know cows milk allergy is common, however if dc hasn’t grown out of this by the time she is one what are her options for milk?

Any experience on likelihood of her growing out of it?

Thank you in advance

My daughter struggled to digest cows milk, she had goats milk until she was about 5 and then she seemed to have grown out of it. Goats milk is apparently easier on the digestive system.

If she has CMPA there's a high chance she won't tolerate the protein in other animal milks. I was advised the next best milk (in terms of nutritional value) is soya milk, then oat milk.

Is she also reacting to the cows milk protein in breast milk, or only when she eats it directly?

There's no guarantee of growing out of it, but most children usually do and as I understand it. If she's only reacting when directly consuming cows milk protein then there's a better chance she'll grow out of it sooner

Goats milk is similar to cows milk so best avoided. Some children with CMPA also have an allergy to soya so would need to be cautious trying this. A calcium fortified oat milk tends to be tolerated well. They should advise you to use the milk ladder when reintroducing milk starting with a small amount of baked milk and work up slowly. But this isn't usually tried 6 months after removing milk

There's alpro junior soya milk for children age 1+. Think they might also do an oat one. Avoid rice milk under age 5 due to arsenic levels.

Thanks for commenting. No reaction to breast milk as far as I am aware. So hopefully it’s just direct contact!

Thanks everyone this is helpful just to make things a little clearer in my head re possible options. Anyway for now we have paused milk as advised by pediatrician and waiting on dietician advice.
