I can't remember exactly how you clean the pot.

I've ordered the tea and a strainer.

I know you don't wash a teapot. Just scald it.

But I can't for toffee remember how you deal with the leaves that stay in the pot instead of ending up in the strainer. Sink? Bin? Do they cause an issue? I'd prefer to save them for the garden, really.

I feel ridiculous because we made tea this way my whole childhood. But I can't remember anything after the strainer.

Sorry, dull I know. I'll make it a sex drugs and rock question next time. Smile

Leaves go into the food bin caddy but they can go into the compost if you have one.

We have a glass tea pot and that goes into the dishwasher on a regular basis. The ceramic tea pot also goes into the dishwasher but as it makes a mess when pouring it's only for back up.

My mum used to put a sterident tablet in the teapot to get it really clean after a few uses

Oh yes, I used them for soaking stained mugs and they work a treat.

BTW, what loose tea does everyone like/recommend. I love M&S extra strong, it's lovely and malty, but I also like M&S breakfast and earl grey teas. I often mix a little earl grey with the extra strong for something a little lighter. I need two big (400ml) mugs of tea every morning to get going.

Btw remember that if you have good quality tea, you should be able to rebrew the tea at least once before throwing it away.

Yes indeed, I have just had a small pot of Oolong to myself, and will re fill later on! I have an integral strainer for the little pot, and one on a chain for the big pot. They are both china and go in the dish washer every so often.

I find it easier to tap out the used leaves onto kitchen paper and fold to dispose, the rinse away any stragglers.

Then not the

Tea leaves in the sink kept plumbers in business. Sieve them. In the olden days! we had a triangular shaped strainer that lived in the sink. We emptied the teapot several times a day into that then threw the leaves on the compost next day. If you're washing teapot by hand be careful.not to knock the spout against a tap. I've lost many a teapot by doing that. Hurrah for teabags.

Tea leaves go in a mini sieve, then into the compost bucket outside the back door. Bucket is emptied onto the compost heap every evening.

Teapot gets swilled, but if the tea stains get too bad it is washed up and rinsed.

I promise you guys, tea leaves do block sinks. Learnt that the hard way when I was working in a cafe at 17.Blush

That's what I was concerned about.

I rarely wash my teapot but sometimes I put it in the dishwasher and it comes out sparkling

HappiDaze · 24/05/2023 14:40

As for loose tea I just pour it through the strainer in bin it as I don't have a compost

ThreeRingCircus · 24/05/2023 14:46

I recently bought a little compost caddy for the kitchen and love it! Tea leaves, coffee grounds, things like apple cores and vegetable peelings all go in there along with scrunched up paper and the cardboard loo roll tubes then when it's full I just take it down to the compost heap at the end of the garden. I feel irrationally grown up and like I've got my shit together when I do this (I assure you that's not the case 🤣)

Smile Yes that's what I need.

I've followed all the advice on the thread and ordered a small sieve and a caddy to go with the strainer.
