Dla to pip mobility

Hi, can anyone tell me what happens when a child's dla transfers to pip please? If the child recieves high rate of care and mobility and has had both since three with current award until 18/ pip, are they likely to recieve the higher pip please?

Also, I'm thinking of getting the mobility car for my son for PA'S to use, what happens when the dla transfers to pip please? Will he automatically lose the car?

Thanks for any advice and any help or experience.

I imagine if awarded PIP enhanced mobility then the car can just continue. It is not guaranteed that he would be awarded enhanced mobility though - the criteria are different for PIP. He would need to not be able to walk 20 metres reliably to qualify.

@Babyroobs thank you. He can walk, he currently qualifies for high rate mobility under severe mental impairment.

Aah ok, yes so he would probably qualify based on not being able to undertake a journey/ unfamiliar journey alone.

For pip, have a look at the planning and following a journey criteria. For enhanced mobility if you’re not able to follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, specialist navigator thing (not Satnav) or guide dog, then you qualify for it. Or other way to qualify is under the walking rules.

Thank you for replying. No he can't go out alone, he has two PA's with him or myself and husband.

I wish it was just straight forward transfer. I'm worried about getting the car for them to take him out, then having it removed and his support package needing to be changed.

I appreciate the help. Thank you.

I imagine it would continue ,my son is 13 and gets HRM,for severe mental impairment,I know several children who have recently transferred from DLA who were not entitled to HRM, under DLA,who are, under PIP,because it's about wether they could get themselves from A to B on their own if your child has severe mental impairment, then going off my own child I'm guessing they wouldn't be able to do that?

thank you, no he can't go anywhere on his own. So it sounds like it should be quite a simple process.

Well people I have known who have gone through its recently have all said they found applying for PIP was a lot easier than DlA so it sounds promising.

DLA*

Cuckoosheep · 23/05/2023 21:17

Thank you, fingers crossed. May I ask and please don't answer if it's too intrusive but do you get a mobility car and if so are you worried about the transfer from dla? At the mo we recieve the money instead.

If he can’t follow the route of a familiar journey without help then that scores 12 points and means enhanced mobility would be awarded.

you can see all the points here https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Global/Migrated_Documents/adviceguide/pip-9-table-of-activities-descriptors-and-points.pdf

As long as you do everything by the dates they give you then DLA payments will continue until a decision is made on PIP.

My son went from medium rate care and low rate mobility to enhanced on both for him on PIP.

Yes we have a mobility car I'm not worried about the transfers I see children with less needs than my son who were not entitled under DLA now being entitled under PIP.I feel my son more than qualify going off the criteria.

My Foster son got higher rate care under DLA but gets Higher rate care and higher rate mobility under PIP because like OP's son he can't go out alone as it would be unsafe due to learning disabilities. They don't expect young children to go out alone but after 16 a child without disabilities would go out alone. We just got the Motability car last week. You also get £750 towards the deposit too.
