Work Coffee Afternoon

Need some help with ideas. At work we have a coffee afternoon once a month. It's 2 hours managers provide drinks and snacks and we can put forward team building suggestions.

What we have done so far
Quiz
Bring and share afternoon tea
Exercise session

Can you help me with any other suggestions

Honestly - don't make it compulsory. Many people find this forced wellbeing stuff stressful and would rather just get on with their job and have more time for their family.

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:14

I'm with you - Ana member of the team not management. I'd just like to go home TBH that's not going to happen though. So need some suggestions.

An early finish ? Use the two hours to send people home

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:15

We'll finish at 3:30 instead of 5.

This is what management get paid to think up, so pass it back up the chain to the person actually being paid to build and maintain team morale.

Bargellobitch · 22/05/2023 20:16

Do a craft, board games, puzzel like a jigsaw, 5 min talks on your face thing

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:17

Hehe would love to - but it's constant now what have we come up with

Yeah - try this! Or failing that, wine tasting. 😀

Mumof1andacat · 22/05/2023 20:18

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:20

@msisfine the wine tasting was your idea, but let’s add gin tasting, cocktail making, whisky tasting, beer brewing,

Doggymummar · 22/05/2023 20:24

Watch a movie, beach clean, or litter pick. Tidy the stationery cupboard.

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:24

Ahh yes thank you @msisfine

A five minute talk on your face?!

How about pictionary?

crystalarter13 · 22/05/2023 20:29

Prize bingo???

Bobbybobbins · 22/05/2023 20:42

Craft activities, board games, simple cooking type things like cupcake decorating, quizzes. Use taskmaster to get some inspiration.

waltzingparrot · 22/05/2023 20:45

Arts and crafts sessions. Make a pot.

Invisimamma · 22/05/2023 21:21

Drop the exercise session, this could be difficult for people with disabilities. Also I have pretty low self esteem and self confidence and exercising in front of colleagues is my worst nightmare. It would cause me huge anxiety in the run up to it.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/05/2023 21:24

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 20:20

@isthewashingdryyet love the wine tasting 😂

Then gin, whisky, whiskey and rum tasting.

Cards Against Humanity.

Won't be long before they stop asking you for ideas.

tatyr · 22/05/2023 21:32

Divide and pot up up house plants to fill your office with. Those who how can teach those who don't.

Macey78 · 22/05/2023 21:35

@Invisimamma the excessive session went down like a lead balloon. Those of us who didn't take part just had a chat and a cuppa. I've got a recovering Achilles tendon so want up for the fast paced of it all.

Jesus, there's nothing worse than enforced 'fun'.

Why don't you extend the session and do some corporate volunteering? We recently did some (terrible) gardening and maintenance at a local children's adventure playground (run by a not-for profit). We've also cooked breakfasts at a local homeless hostel as well as cleaned up the local river.

DrHousecuredme · 22/05/2023 21:59

We had a painting session once which was lovely and generally enjoyed.

How about some sort of fun cake/biscuit decorating competition or mini bake off if you have the facilities. People could choose to be contestants or judges.

We have philosophy for children in school and the training sessions where adults get to have a good philosophy debate go down surprisingly well.

We did a "treasure hunt" around the city centre which inevitably ended up with us sitting in Costa googling the answers. The slight feeling of playing truant was a bonding experience.

FWW I agree with the others, an afternoon off trumps anything suggested here but it is what it is.

The crucial thing, whatever you plan needs to allow people to participate in their own way. Forcing exercise, competition or silliness on people who are not that way inclined will always do more harm than good.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 22/05/2023 22:03

One place I worked paid for 2 beauty therapists to come in & they gave head, neck & hand massages, to relieve stress. It was lovely. You saw the therapist on your own & others chatted & drank coffee whilst we all took a turn going into her room that she had set up (calming music & aromatherapyoils burning). Everyone joined in (men & women).
