How has your playroom changed as kids older?

Fairly dull/ mundane thread - just wondering how people have adapted/ changed their playrooms from toddlers to
primary school aged children. Anyone have homework stations/ desks to keep clutter clear of the dining table? Toys storage? Or do they tend to play in their bedrooms? I only have babies at the mo so no idea but trying to future proof the house if possible.

I have a toddler and looking to try again this year so I’m afraid I can’t be of help but interested in responses. We live in the south east so space is limited. The house we will be moving to soon will have more space so I am interested in responses!

so far I was thinking of having most things in their rooms and a few in dining room and the lounge. Perhaps a small basket in those rooms and rotate the toys on a weekly basis

Toy room, to craft room to computer game room to office/gym all over the past 15 years.

Well, I don't have a playroom ( how nice it would be to have all their toys in one room) but I have a toddler and a primary schooler.
We use a big wooden chest for toddler stuff, underbed storage for older dcs toys. Then have two IKEA cupboards approx 1mx1mx36cm which are filled with books and some card games. Cuddlies populate wall shelves and a couple of baskets.
The best is the IKEA cupboards as they make the shared bedroom much less busy looking..
Of course then the landing is dollhouse world with a shelf of small storage boxes for characters ordered by type and two houses and a school on desks.

Expedit with sofa, to trofast, to open shelving.

Open shelving back to Expedit when they moved from toys to more just games and puzzles.

Added TV with games console and sofa when they were maybe upper primary.

Added cat tree, litter box and kitten. Highly recommend.

Sounds loads of changes but it's worked at every stage, just in different ways. The old trofast and open shelves are still in use elsewhere in the house.

Following for any good ideas..as our entire conservatory is one giant playroom for dd 3.
We found the best suitable solution so far is the ikea kallax units with the boxes in, can hide all the crap away. But also have a play shop, Flisat table, toy kitchen and a wicker drawer set full of craft bits she likes to dump everywhere 🙃

Good question. I'd love to put a homework/craft table in there but I like to do workouts in there and it would eat into my space!

Kids are now 8 and almost 5. When they were small, the playroom was wooden toys and books on shelves, full sized playhouse in the corner, sofa and plastic tat in my old toy cupboard.
Now the shelves are a shrine to playmobil, lots of board games and a table to play them on plus non fiction books and all the non farm/dinosaur Schleich/Papo. There is a Tv and gaming console but the xbox is in the family room. Toy cupboard houses craft materials and more playmobil. Shelf full of craft books.

In dc1's bedroom he has a desk for homework, his nerf gun collection, lego, a wooden castle and knights plus large box of dinosaurs.

Dc2 has a wooden dolls house, a Barbie house, a wooden farm plus animals and a "dressing" table that functions as a desk in hers.

If they both have friends around at the same time they like the Family room for the big tv/xbox or the playroom for the playmobil. If just dc1 has friends, then they play his room for a bit and then game. Dc2's friends like her room.

Playroom storage is mostly Billy bookcases with a Kallax unit and my childhood toy cupboard plus a table with storage built in and a surprisingly comfortable sofa bed.

I like things in tubs, ideally with lids on shelves so they can be moved around. For example the duplo mostly lives in Dc2's room but it can be easily carried anywhere in the house. We have some slippage like the odd escaping Barbie but mostly toys stay in their proper locations.
