Do you believe manifestation and Law of Attraction are a thing?

So this might just be me but in recent years I've seen an explosion of books on manifestation or law of attraction?
It seems to be a hot topic on social media, along with spirituality.

I may be niave here, but I've always thought that working on your goals, having a loose life plan was this sort of thing...

Do you believe in manifestation and law of attraction?
I've found myself intrigued by it all....

ok @EmptyBedBlues . Thanks 🫢

Completely believe in it.
Law of attraction. Life is a magnet, you attract what you put out.

I have read so many books, watched documentaries and yeah, I believe.

You need to ‘manifest’ reading comprehension. @FunnyFunn proposed a ‘you’, individual or plural, who believes he/she/they are ‘poor and unworthy’ and are hence unable to ‘manifest’ to improve their lot.

Should this ‘you’, single or plural, who believes this, change such beliefs to accepting their own ‘worthiness’ and that they are living in a world of ‘abundance’, with sufficient ‘reflection, analysis, effort and time, they will ‘attract wealth and happiness’, implying that they are poor and unhappy until or unless they have managed this belief change.

Therefore those who remain in the former category haven’t put in enough ‘reflection, analysis, effort and time’ to ‘attract wealth and happiness’.

This really isn’t difficult.

I think you are aware you twisted FunnyFunn’s words and are trying to style it out.

These ideas are revisited and the authors make a mint, in successive waves - multiple times since the 70s and 80s, and several this century. But they leave out an important part of the original New Thought formulas, which was God/Christ - and also a level of kindness and compassion for humanity. I find them vile, profiting on the ideas of others without referencing their sources. At least Louise Hay referenced (vaguely) where she nicked it from.

Thank you, so insightful!

Fully believe it. My life seems to go better when I'm practising and even if it isn't this it gets me through my day and I don't ram it down other peoples throats 😌

This is a bit OTT in my opinion.

We don’t cite Newton every time we mention gravity or Euclid every time we engineer something.

There are some things which are true about the world and Lao Tzu talked about it, Jesus and so on, because they are true things. I would recommend Florence Scovel-Shinn’s book “The Game of Life and How To Play It” - it’s very clear and simple and talks about karma too, but there is nothing wrong with talking about the same ancient principles that Scovel-Shinn talked about without name-checking her every time.

With an abundant mindset, you realise there is room at the table for everyone and each person can have their unique perspective on the truth, and some will resonate with you more than others.

There’s a lot about it in Jesus’ parables too.

In the Old Testament there’s some stuff that’s hard to get your head around. Why was David so favoured, if he essentially murdered a bloke just so he could shag his wife? That’s the mysterious thing, the creativity and manifestation has nothing to do with our moral worthiness. There is no correlation between being a ‘good’ person and being a ‘blessed’ person.

This parable of Jesus’ about the three servants is really harsh - you think ‘WTF?’, but it relates to this discussion re abundance/scarcity mindset here.

Matthew 25:14-30 New Living Translation
^^
Parable of the Three Servants
^^
14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.
^^
15 He gave five bags of silver[a] to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.
^^
16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more.17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.
^^
19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
^^
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together![b]’
^^
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
^^
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
^^
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
^^
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
^^
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver.
^^
29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
^^
30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

My dd was asking me about this yesterday. I said all the cute little rituals can get you excited and focused on knowing exactly what you want so it’s fun to play around with. But if it was as simple as “believing and expecting” good things than my life would be bloody amazing.

I’ve always been an optimist but my life has not gone to plan at all!

I do not. I do, however, believe in the power of setting SMART goals. I think any success from manifesting most likely actually comes from articulating to yourself what it is that you want.

ICMB · 22/05/2023 14:06

The only people I’ve ever heard use the word ‘manifest’ have been people I don’t like 😂 never even heard of the other thing
