Wisdom tooth extraction that hasn't erupted

Anyone had this done ? Mine is growing sideways and pushing on the tooth in front, causing lots of jaw pain.
The other one (llr) came through years ago but only partially, causing loads of trouble over the years and that's coming out too but I'm not too worried about that one.

The dentist said they will chip away at the bone for the one that hasn't erupted 😱 any experiences would be much appreciated ! Will it be a hospital job? Please tell me they knock you out??

Here's a pic of the one that's stuck under the gum line !

I had mine taken out about 8 years ago. I was awake. It was absolutely fine. They put a small cut into the gum, chipped away and a little wiggle and it was out. Didn't take long. A couple of stitches later and it was done. No pain.

I had all four out under GA. My dentist tried to get one out with a local, but without success. It was agonising, mostly afterwards, because he pushed down on it to loosen it.

During the GA, they broke my upper jaw on the right, I was warned that it was a possibility. It swelled up something rotten for a few weeks. Mine had 4 splayed out roots, like my mother and aunt.

I know several people who've had them out in the last ten years or so, all with local and "twilight sleep."

I had the two lower impacted wisdom teeth out in the chair. Oral surgeon's rooms. I'd 100% advise you to go to hospital to have yours done. The extractions were fine to be awake for, but pain management afterwards was the problem. I stayed with my mother afterwards and she had to get a doctor to do a housecall to give me a pethidine shot, I was out of my mind with pain. In hospital, you get proper pain relief and don't wait for it.

I've got a feeling because it's only one that is below the gum line they will say I don't need a general. Is there anyway I can insist on it ?

All four were impacted with fully twisted roots so couldn’t be simply pulled out. Unfortunately the student dentist at a dental hospital didn’t realise this and pulled and pulled at it while I was awake to remove it. I was in shock and pain for weeks afterwards. Still traumatised now tbh.

Years after I braved it to my regular dentist who dealt with all three under local anaesthetic. He sawed the teeth below the gum line so they would stop bothering me but advised it would be foolish to try to have them completely removed.

I felt better within hours and they’ve never given me further issue. The gum just grew back, healed fine, the time in the chair was comfortable. Maybe it felt fine in comparison to the horrible hospital experience - I don’t know. But I could’ve kissed him.

I had all four of mine out under GA in hospital. Mine was quite complex because of twisted roots and partial eruption etc and two were touching the main facial nerve. A surgeon (professor and maxilo facial surgeon, not a dentist) did it. I was so dentally interesting, that they got 8 students in to watch 😄. I was knocked out though. Recovery was very quick and I felt a lot better with them out, but I had quite bad bruising around my face that made me look like a victim of domestic abuse.

My partner had an impacted wisdom tooth out yesterday, like yours it was totally under the gum.
It was done by privately a specialist dentist trained in sedation but in a normal dental surgery with nurses present.
It took over an hour, he has significant swelling on that side and is in a lot of pain despite regular pain relief.
It'll be a good few days before he can get at anything solid I think.
Not to put you off but just be aware that pain and swelling is normal in most cases I think.

I have no wisdom teeth at all - x-rayed looking for them and lo and behold nothing! The dentist said that one day no-one will have them and that I am evolutionarily superior!

Good luck with getting rid of yours.

Top two taken out with local by my dentist but she says i need to go to dental hospital for bottom one as it's mire complicated to pull those.

Am putting it off because I'm a wuss tbh.

So much better to be awake if you can. It's tough on the body going under general.
