Above ground pool needs a safety cover?

We are setting up an intex solid side above ground pool this year and it's 1.32m deep. I can't seem to find anything that would qualify as a safety cover. Would a pond net work?

Safety for wildlife or kids? Sorry just wondering as we have one of these pools and no safety thing. V high sided so can’t accidentally fall in?

Kids can climb 1.32 pretty easily. It's kids I'm most worried about. I've put a safety ladder thing in for wildlife.

Ive seen people using katchakid nets for over the top but I'm not sure how reliable they are

We have one- no cover, but the steps are removable and there is nothing round it to aid climbing.
You can get pool alarms which detect movement as well.

I think where we have made things trickier is by building a small deck next to the pool. But otherwise it's so tall you can't sit and supervise the kids.

If you have a deck by the pool you need a fence and lockable self closing gate to prevent access.

PoolSafety · 22/05/2023 00:09

@averylongtimeago Is that a guideline or regs? I can't find anything specific online. Our deck isn't fixed and the pool isn't permanent. I've plonked it in the paddock so there is a fence around it. The deck does have a lockable gate on the bottom of the stairs.

I am in Australia and the rules here are that any pool with more than 30 cm of water requires a proper fence. I wouldn't be comfortable with anything less. They even check to see if there is anything nearby that would make the fence easy to climb, and if your pool is non compliant you get a hefty fine. I think you have to be very careful with kids and water.

I don't think there are any rules as such in the UK- I know there are in France, mostly about inground pools:

However, for your own peace of mind it sounds like you need some protection round the pool, especially as there is a deck round part of it.
We can't see it, so it's hard to advise. But you do need to block access somehow.

@averylongtimeago yup, I agree I'd like some sort of protection but I can't find anything suitable hence asking what others have done with the temp above ground pools. It's not too tricky to visualise. It's 54" tall with soft sides.
