DD has borrowed this from school library so I am possibly over thinking - but having done a bit of research it does seem quite divisive- has anyone read it or got DC who have ?
I am mindful that censorship or attempts to control might not be wise at all but mainly curious to know what anyone who has read it or has DC who have read it think of it .
DH asked is it like a modern Lord of the flies ?

Our school does them as the first English reading book in Year 7. Absolutely fine. Far less violence than a lot of kids will have encountered via computer games, and never glorified - actually quite a good counter-balance to the flippant depictions of violence they're likely to meet elsewhere (I'd say the same about LOTF - if i think of that book now it's still with a sense of visceral horror, which is surely a good thing).

It was in the 'year 6 only' section of DDs primary school.

Thanks so much everyone will stop the pearl clutching and let her get on with it.
Might even take your advice @EconomyClassRockstar and read one alongside her to see what the fuss is all about!

We have no boundaries on books in our family. If you want to give it a read, go for it. We shouldn't try and curb young people's drive to read.

I agree with this really!
And don't want to curb her enthusiasm for reading as I have a DS who never reads for pleasure .
